XP spent during character creation with Into The Storm

From France,

Hello there

I am preparing a future Rogue Trader Campaign and have decided to include the New Into The Storm origin path option and my players and me have a few questions :

Page 17 told us that "any modifications made to an Explorer due to taking these new choices does not count as an Advance for the purposes of increasing in rank, nor
do increases or reductions count toward the improvement of a Characteristic through normal means."

If I understand well the character's creation process, the first 4500 XP are the equivalent of the origin path and the player can customize his character with 500 XP minux the XP spent on these new origin path choices.

If that is the case, the character will begin with less than 5000 XP value so does he have to wait to have 5000 XP before buying rank 1 advances ort can we consider he can buy rank 1 advances even if he begins with lower XP than 5000 ?

Why does these advances does not count as en advance for the purpose of increasing in rank ?

What about the few costing choices in the Core Rulebook (like "Tainted" and "Criminal" Lure of the Void choices) ?

Would it be a good house rule to give 1000 XP instead of 500 considering that the new option are costly but appealing for players ?

Thanks

Ciryon

The character should be able to purchase rank 1 advances even with XP below 5,000. This just means it will take that character longer to get out of rank 1 than some others.

These don't count because they are considered background. These advances were gained before the character joined the current crew and are part of what got him to this point in his career.

They should be handled in the same way.

That would be totally up to you. More XP never hurts, but it shouldn't be needed.

To be honest, that's going to depend largely on your players; I personally wouldn't do it, but that's mostly because the 500 background xp is the sole balancing factor of the origin path. Adding more allows your players to cherrypick the best choices.
