Against Ithaqua

By The Professor, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

[For the military members who may be out there, I've recently completed Air Command & Staff College ~ it's amazing how much more time I have available to me...]

Anyway, I'm continuing my AH obsession with the 7th game using AH + KH + CotDP + KiY

This will pale in comparison to some of my earlier write-ups (sorry, Julia), but I was surprised by the overall game. We encountered three separate Gate Bursts at the Unvisited Isle , two Rifts opened (one of which had a symbol that moved across the same color arrow, which shifted Ithaqua's Doom Track to 10!), Tony ended up Barred from Easttown (that'll teach him not to point out cheating pool hustlers), and we managed to Pass The Unraveling Tapestry Rumor. Additionally, the team of Investigators (Tony Morgan [blessed for most of the game], Harvey Walters, Sister Mary, and Mandy Thompson had quite an incredible array of Common and Unique Items, Spells, and Trophies at the end.

Tony: 3 Monster Trophies (Dim. Shambler, Colour out of Space, Tcho-Tcho Priest, and a Leng Spider) and 2 Gate Trophies (The Dreamlands and Yuggoth)

Harvey: 6 Monster Trophies (Byakhee, Shan, Gnoph-Keh, Zombie, Gug, and Leng Spider) and 1 Gate Trophy (The Abyss)

Sister Mary: 1 Monster Trophy (House of Tindalos) and 3 Gate Trophies (The City of the Great Race x2 and The Underworld

Mandy: 3 Monster Tropies (Ghoul, Zombie, and a Chthonian) and 2 Gate Trophies (Great Hall of Celeano and The Dreamlands)

This game proved to be a bit of a nail-biter in the mid-game portion, as rift-tracks filled quickly and Gate Bursts did everything to undo our process in Arkham (coupled with the loss of 15 Clue Tokens from Sealing the Gates). Well, that's it for now. I have 5 more games using the aforementioned combination...and then it's AH + DH + KH + CotDP + KiY Time!

Professor,

even if short, it was great to read. And it's also a great pleasure knowing that you're enjoying Kingsport Horror games with no other additional boards. Kingsport mechanics grant you a very particular experience when played alone. I hope in your plans there are also scheduled games with AH + KH + BGotW + LatT. They're a nightmare (ehm, a lot of fun), especially when played with short doomed AOs.

And congrats for being able to win with Mary! ::laughter::

On the turn after it popped up, not the same turn, right?

Julia,

Thank you ~ I'll write even if you're the only one reading my stories. corazon.gif But, seriously don't hate Mary ~ she means to do so much good for the little Town of Arkham!

Dam,

Yes, you're absolutely correct ~ the turn after. I'm enamored by someone's house rule in which the Rift opens in the last location identified on the Rift Track I can see how some people found/find the Rift Mechanic a bit complex, but a solid reading of the text maybe twice, should about do it. Hey, aren't you the guy that's never visited the city of Kingsport? gran_risa.gif Seriously, despite being on FFG's page for nearly two years, I'm not familiar with the reason behind your animosity toward this particlar expansion...

oops, forgot to mention about BGotW, Julia. I'm still waiting...it's on a boat! Once I get it, it's added to the Nightmare Carnival!

Dam,

90%+ of the games I've played over the past two years have been of the solo variety w/4 Investigators. Obviously, when playing solo, you don't tend to have an issue of one Investigator dealing with the Rift Track in Kingsport, as you're still controlling three other Investigators in Arkham (and possibly Dunwich and/or Innsmouth). I've played only one AH + KH game with others, compared to seven solo games, so I have no basis upon which to make an assessment other than the one Investigator certainly felt as though she had contributed to the group effort. Unlike the veterans in the group, while I haven't used the Guardians to make games easier, I'm certiainly not racing to use Heralds from KH to make things more difficult.

Anyway, thanks for the review.

After reading the narrative part introducing Scenario 11 of Avi's league (if you are curious, you can read the story here ), I started developing a curious sentiment of piety for this little lovable nun, cursed by the gods, once a Werenun, now a prostitute at the court of Y'golonac. I need a furnace... demonio.gif

That's a great piece of news! Can't wait to read your reactions :-)

She's not cursed, she's blessed, blessed !

Wait, what? A furnace? Are you going to throw Mary in a furnace? Why didn't I think of that?!

P.S. She is not a prostitute or a werenun for anyone not following the stories ;'D

Yes, she has a blessing card. Which doesn't authomatically imply she's blessed by the Gods. Man, she had such a horrible series of unlucky events during your League she must be cursed ::laughter::

(and sorry Professor for hijacking the thread)

Ah, Professor. Your words make me grin most wide.

LOVE Kingsport-only games. I'm amused how much of a crunch this one was for you, since both KY and DP lack Gate Bursts. I play closer to Julia's suggestion (usually AH + KH + LT), and ALL of my Kingsport games are like this.

I think I better go read your other reports...

Dear The Professor,

What base are you at or getting stationed at now that you are done?

Julia,

Once I get BGotW, the next set of 16 games will consist of AH + CotDP + DH + KiY + KH + BGotW + LatT

It's never a "hijack" situation ~ It's Arkham Free-Association Time

jgt7771,

I'm a frustrated fiction writer, disguised as an AF officer and a G-man w/the Bureau. Hope you enjoy the session reports.

electronicham,

No movement for me ~ still in the Reserves at the Pentagon.

Gotcha! I was hoping to find another player up here.

Then again, when I get Arkham Horror Saturday's going at the local comic shop here, I will CREATE new players.
