Starting ships and 'expendables'

By Madadh, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

Is there any rule that states what you 'start with'? In the purchasing section I noticed it said that Landing Bays can come with a squadron per point of strength, but what about torpedo launchers?

And more importantly, before the game begins is the rogue traders vessel considered to be fully stocked? IE if you buy components with ship points do they come with their standard compliment of stuff? Full torpedo tubes and launch bays? I couldn't find anywhere that said for certain.

A landing bay comes with 3 squadrons per point of strength.

The core RT book says the ship comes fully stocked.

A question regarding fighter/bombers/attack craft:

How many fighter/bombers/attack craft can a cargo hold and lighter bay take without sacrificing the ability to move cargo for a cruiser?

I have both a cargo hold and lighter bay and a Compartimelize Cargo Hold. It is better to fill the cargo hold and lighter bay shuttle capacity with fighter/bombers/attack craft and use Compartimelize Cargo Hold for shuttles, landers, halo barges,etc.. to move cargo ?

How many fighter/bombers/attack craft are in squadron?

A landing bay can hold 3 squadrons per point of strength. It only comes with one squadron per point according to the rules on page 36 (unless the GM decides otherwise).

It would be up to the GM to determine how many craft a cargo hold could fit (with 6 and 3 squadrons being reasonable for the Compartmentalized Cargo Hold and the Cargo Hold and Lighter Bay respectively), but you have to keep in mind that a cargo hold is not equipped to launch and service craft. So you could not use them in combat, they'd be cargo. If you want to use attack craft you need a Launch Bay. Transports can modify a Main Cargo Hold (and only that variety of hold) to launch craft as the Hold Landing Bay, but it has serious repercussions.

Squadron sizes are on the table on page 14.
