Que: FotB - * support Op cards, sabotage/subversion timing, SU-122 stats...

By artemis8, in Tide of Iron

Hello all.

After playing 1st scenario from FotB and a brief reviewing game components I still have several questions:

a) Op cards like HM support, Katyusha support : Do they work like normal artillery cards? I.e. when you pay for them but do not make a successfull contact, can you use them next round, or do you have to pay for them every round even if you do not succeed in making a contact? And do using these Op cards counts as an action?

b) In a rule bokklet is vaguely explained timing of a sabotage and a subversion (during Command phase resp. Status phase). Does that mean whenever during repspective phases? I understand it so, so that you do not have to care much, if you have a CP remaining for playing a sabotage card and to be able to discard opponent's strategy card (subversion) as soon as it is revealed .

c) Are the stats for SU-122 SPG relating to infantry OK (10/10)? Is not it some misprint?

Thanks for answers.

A) Very good questions. Also, do Artillery cards such as Increased Priority (reduced cost, better contact chance) and Spotting Round (reduced drift) affect Katyusha, Nebelwerfer and Heavy Mortar Support (no drift here, though) cards? They do not take actions but are used at the start of an action phase, not during an action turn (in sequence according to initiative, I guess, it is not stated in the rules). I have played that you have to pay each turn, contact or no contact... but thinking about it, your idea also makes sense, especially with the high cost for this support.

B) Haven't had any game with Sabotage yet, sorry.

C) I asked the same question, and Bill Jaffe replied that these stats are correct. Many Germans running for cover and out of LOS right now... You just have to take that into account while playing, SU-122s change things when they show up.

If you feel the SU122s are overpowered, you can always use the houserule that they can't make fire and move attacks (as they don't have a turret and there are as yet no facing rules in TOI to better reflect this). Apparently Bill Jaffe also uses this houserule for all non-turreted vehicles from what I understand.

I don't think they're overpowered, just quite effective versus infantry and deserve special consideration on the part of the German player. If vehicles like the Sturmpanzer IV (Brummbär) ever appear in ToI, they will realistically be even more effective against infantry and should also be more effective against buildings and fortigifcations.
