If the PCs have multiple Ships....

By HeavensThunderHammer, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

If the PC's have multiple ships, do all of the ships supplemental components count towards achievement points awards? i.e. Two ships with a barracks, do the PC's get +200 achievement points for military endeavors?

I would think they would be added together. What would lead you to believe that they wouldn't?

Although in my game the GM doesn't like the achievement point system and doesn't use it. So I am not really familiar with it in action.

from france

i think not is this case it is a collective action of several captain thus it earns collectively or divided. exemple 5 captains 1000 achievement or 200 per captain

If it does then it'd mean that your players get rich VERY fast. Every 100 AP above the objective = 1 PF extra. Get a number of transports and then have fun with some trade objectives... +10 PF. To easy.

This is the kind of abuse I was thinking could happen. On the flipside, More ships certainly does make endeavors go faster and resolved more fully... So yeah. Any other thoughts?

Personnally, I'd rule :

- Components that can only taken once on a Ship (all the bonuses from Additionial Components for instance, as well from essential components) offer their Achievement Points only once.
- For components that can be taken several times (all the Cargo Holds) you get the largest bonus for each once from each ship.

For instance, you have a flottilla including a Vagabond ( 2 Cargo Holds, 1 Luxury Passenger Quarters, 1 Trophy Room, 1 temple Shrine, Commerce Bridge, R-50 Auxpex Multiband), a Jericho ( 1 Cargo Hold, 3 luxury passengers Quarters, 1 Trophy Room, 1 Temphe Shrine,Commerce Bridge, R-50 Auxpex Multiband) and a light Cruiser ( Trophy Room, Temple Shrine, Compartimentalized Cargo Hold).

At the end, the flottilla will receives the Achievement Points from :
- 3 Luxury Passenger Quarters
- 2 Cargo holds
- 1 Temple Shrine
- 1 Compartimentalized Cargo Hold
- 1 Trophy Room
- 1 Commerce Bridge
- 1 R-50 Auxpex Multiband.

I have also been thinking about this. By the rules, every component on any of the PCs ship would provide its full bonus, which can become too much.

I'll probably rule that components on their flagship give the full bonus and components on secondary ships only half. That still allows for quick raise in PF, but over the last few sessions I got the impression that PF is meant to fluctuate quickly and significantly. Many possible acquisitions seem to be priced under the assumption, that PCs are not too terribly afraid of burning PF.

I guess that's the same approach I would go for. Depending on the PCs and their actions, additional ships may just mean additional targets and potential losses...

PCs with a large fleet should also be going on bigger endeavours and require more achievement points.

Allow all the Components to stack, but make sure that each ship generates a roll on the Misfortunes table at the start of each Endeavour. Having a big fleet means you have a great deal of entanglements and there is much more that can go wrong. Any appropriate ship can be sent off to deal with a Misfortune, but that ship is then unable to help with the current Endeavour. Sometimes this will pull your fleet apart to deal with the messes you've gotten into leaving you back to one lone ship to tackle the current mission, but other times you'll have smooth sailing with your flotilla of power.

I'm not against achievement points stacking. If you have three ships with cargo holds and they don't get blown up you get the bonus.

Even with one ship Achievement point bonuses can stack to ridiculous levels.

Consider the Universe-class:

With an auxiliary plasma bank you can have up to 16 main cargo holds (including the 4 it comes with) that is an extra 2000 achievement points per trade objective.

With the possibility of that, there doesn't seem to be too much point in limiting the benefit for multiple ships. Though more ships should probably mean more Upkeep tests.

If you're able to get enough resources to fill up sixteen main holds and then sell all of that material without completely destabilising the market, there's no particular reason you shouldn't get the full benefit. Remember, just because you have the component doesn't mean it's of use to the purposes of the endeavour.

That's not what the rules say. Only a few components (brig, plasma scoop) say they need to be used in order to provide the benefit. Otherwise it gets very hard to adjudicate when a particular component comes into play. How exactly does one use a Trophy Room, for instance? I think the abstraction is necessary for smooth game play. Of course the GM is free to set limits on things, like you can't more than double the achievement points for an objective (but that makes the Universe's integral holds seldom used for the full +500).

You're gona run a 12km long hulk full of goodies round the Expanse and not expect half the sectors creepies coming round for a little chat about ownership?

I mean, you'll probably assign escorts but this fleet would have a big 'raid me' sign hanging over it

i think that there is no reason the bonuses shouldn't stack

if you think that the players are having too easy of a time, then why the hell did you let them start with more than one ship?! also, how did they afford to out fit the ships in the first place?!

if they got the additional ships as part of the campaign, then they deserve the perks that come with flying a fleet (ie: more security, more Hauling capacity, more troops barracks, etc..). The PC's fought tooth and nail to build their fortunes, why shouldn't they reap the rewards of their persistence?
