Timing of Fairweather Followers?

By Twn2dn, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Probably a silly question, but when exactly do the followers stand? The effect says "when," but is that treated as during or after in the case where my opponent plays Game of Cyvasse. In other words (and I'm really just hoping here, I realize) can I stand the Followers when Cyvasse hits play and then kneel them to pay for the effect?

The card actually doesn't say "when" lengua.gif

It's a passive ability and therefore resolves in Step 4 of the Action Window the event is played in. Since effects are executed in Step 3, an already knelt Followers doesn't stand early enough to be chosen to kneel and count its STR for Cyvasse. However, even if chosen to go back to hand, it still stands (in Step 4) since it doesn't actually leave play until Step 6. Not sure how useful that is, but at least you can try spiting your opponent : /

Thanks for breaking down the timing structure. That stuff still confuses me...or rather, it's the inconsistency of the jargon used on the cards ("each time" vs. "after," etc.) that I often find confusing.

Yeah, it would be nice if they were more consistent with their phrasing, but the better you're understanding of the Action Window is, the easier it will be to figure out "when" things have to happen, regardless of the phrasing. That's the best advice I can usually give to people:

Learn the Action Window.

(I'm not saying, don't ask questions if you're confused/uncertain or that anyone here minds, but understanding the Action Window will help you answer many questions you might run into on your own.)
