Operation Cyclone: Standing on the Beach eliminated units

By tmink2, in Dust Tactics

Situation: I'm defending with the Axis and am allowed 4 AP worth of reinforcenments and am am aware that eliminated units may not return as reinforcements. The enemy is at my doorstep and I have 2 AP left. I have already lost two Battle Grenadier Units and the only 2-point unit card I haven't used is the Panzer Killers.

This brings up two questions: 1 Even if I have the miniatures avaiable, am I able to reinforce with my second set of Battle Grenadiers? 2. Since I had a Panzer Killers cards in reserve, am I allowed to call it a unique unit and bring back eliminated figures fron the Battle Grenadiers to fill in the new unit?

Another question:

Since the attacking force is coming off landing craft, shouldn't the defender get to place all the cover in the Zone of Cover?

when i read that mission , i thought is was kinda odd , i have to wonder if its something thats lost in translation ?

in this matter , i can only suggest how i see the mission , and will admit that i could be totally wrong , and would accept an official ruling , or one from BGG by the creators , or a repost of an official explanation by DG . either way it wont effect me , since we dont play the provided scenarios much except for demos .

i would suggest asking dust games for an official reply , BUT ..................

i am THINKING that perhaps the objective of the mission wording is to require players to actually play figures they have , and expand their forces more .

i have seen some players who dont want to buy new units , they try to keep the game small , which not only limits them , but limits their opponents aswell . technicaly its legal , but it gets kinda dull playingthe exact same force every time .

as worded , untill officialy explained , i would take it to POSSIBLY mean that you cant reuse the same figures , but that you could play the same unit type as long as its not the same figures used .

making players buy more figures of what ever kind means bigger games , and expands play . for those not wanting to expand their forces beyond just a starter , they could play other missions .

this makes more sense to me as there are not many units out yet , so you can still customize your force and have more variety .

and as for the cover , its done for fairness , if you were to do it the other way , then there is no reason for the attacker to EVER place cover terrain items since thats kinda in the nature of being the defenders job .

Is there an army points limit to this scenario? I think this rule assumes that you have all the new models, possibly as the pack was designed to have them all in it like the first game, therefore the rule makes sense. If you don't have all the models (you won't as they are not released yet) then recycle the dead ones once all of you units have been used once.

Point limit for attackers is 12ap worth of robots, 18 of infantry. Not sure about defenders. We just opened the box to have a quick look over.

4 AP per turn for defenders X 8 turn game. I have all expansions to date which I think totals 36 points if one doesn't bring figures back into play. The questions remain unanswered.

1. Can one bring identical units into a scenario?

2. Can one return a figure taken off the board if it is reused in a different unit?

1. If your question is can you have two Pounders or two Battle Grenadiers in a scenario then yes, you can. That is why they sell expansions. The only restrictions I believe are on the command units, only 1 per armor level and heros, you can only have one hero of any given name.

2. Are you asking this in a friendly game setting between two individuals that dont have enough units to fill the amount required in the scenario, then do whatever you agree on. If you are asking in a tournament setting then I dont think they will allow you to do that. You must submit your player list prior to the game and you are not going to know what units are dead that you can use later in the game. Medic is the only unit capable of returning a squad and that is only once per game and the mechanic is the only unit that can return a vehicle to the game and that too is only once per game.

Thanks.

Thinking it through, DT rules say only one of each hero. It would have been mentioned if the same rule was applied to unit cards. It is also apparent that a flex unit like Tank Killers has only 6 figures in the box. Had it been meant to be played with both cards from the expansion at the same time, there would have been 11 figures.

To play this scenario as the defender, it's going to take up to 32 AP worth of minis.
