UU and moving investigators into locked rooms

By Locusshifter, in Mansions of Madness

I apologise ahead of time if this has been answered elsewhere.

I've been told that players at FF events were instructed that UU cannot move investigators into locked rooms.

Because locks can mean as little as giving the room darkness, there still seems to be some ambiguity in whether UU can do this or not. I believe scenario 5 almost expressly forbids this, but there are no specifics concerning any other stories. It's not in t he FAQ so I would certainly like to know.

I don't think this is possible for two reasons... 1) pretty sure the wording says that monsters can ignore them and an investigator even if controlled by the keeper is not a monster. 2) I think it would be possible in several scenarios to trap a player this way (or using an insanity card to move a player through one) in a location where the player had now way to get out on his own.

I think Locushifter may have been suggesting revealing the card to move the investigator in, in which case, seeing as Scenario 5 explicitly calls out this is forbidden, it would suggest that in other scenarios it is perfectly permitting. Of course, in many cases this is granting an investigator player a "free" attempt to solve a puzzle instead, but yes, for the few cards where you have dark rooms and scary passages, it seems at the moment to not be ruled out.

The best idea is probably to send a rules query using the link at the bottom of these pages though for official confirmation.

The main rule here is that Investigators cannot move into locked rooms under any circumstances.

I think that the darkness that you refer to is Power Cut, which I believe is an Obstacle card.

I don't actually have the game infront of me to check the cards, though.

As I understand the game, and correct me if I am wrong, investigators use a movement to attempt to enter a room, the keeper reveals the lock card, and then the investigator attempts to resolve the lock. Given this it seems possible to force the investigator to resolve he lock, and if they do, they would be moved into the room.

I believe UU's effects are limited to movement and triggering the actions of Spells, Weapons or Equipment. I suppose you could move the Investigator to a locked room, and reveal the Lock card, but you couldn't force them to solve it.

True, they could default their actions. I can't think of any situation where there would be any reason not to take the free attempt at the lock. Of course, canny Keepers could use it as a double bluff to steer the investigators away from a room that he seems particularly keen to get them to enter! demonio.gif
