Panzerfaust and Bazooka errata?

By Martellus2, in Dust Tactics

In my opinion it makes more sense if the Bazooka can be recharged and the Panzerfaust is a one-time use.

Has this been discussed before, and how many 'rounds' is reasonable for the Bazooka?

thats how it works , where did you get the idea that the bazoka is single shot ?

Panzerfaust is already a one-shot weapon matey!

Do you mean that the bazooka should require reloading between shots like the steel rain, or Lothar? To be perfectly honest, if your bazooka has line of sight to something, then there's a good chance that it's in someone else's line of sight too. As we know - unforgiving mistress that Dust tactics is - your bazooka and the squad with it are most likely not going to have too many opportunities remaining to fire the weapon once they become a target themselves ;)

We have to remember that the panzerfaust is a one-shot because more than one can be fired in a single activation, which gives it much more chance of hitting than a bazooka, or panzershreck; especially with a berserk, or sustained attack bonus.

I think if the bazooka, or panzerschreck were to be limited use weapons, then they would have to be considerably more accurate in order to justify taking them. One dice against level 4 medium walkers isn't much if your ammo is limited; even with a sustained attack.

I too would be interested to know what the rest of the community think. Good call Martellus.

plus the bazookas range is pretty limited. i dont often get multiple shots with it.

The reason I were confused is that is says (1) after the Bazooka on the Squad Card... but not after the Panzerfaust.

Adding the clarifications from u'all above, I am on!

This also happened with one of my regular opponents. What he didn't realise was that the number signified how many weapons of that type were in the squad. I imagine this will make more of a difference with the Bot Hunter card where it should read '2'.

Funny how something that was meant to make the cards simpler has caused so much confusion, but I understand why people are having issues with it. The rules state that if it doesn't have a check-box on the card, then the weapon does not run out of ammo, (the exception to this being Manfred from operation cyclone who grants an attached squad unlimited panzerfausts while he is alive, assuming that this weapon is already part of their loadout!)

when i demo the game , the number of weapons is the biggest single confusing factor when people try the game out for the first time . i think they should have printed the cards with the number in () of EACH weapon in the starting full strength squad . the number vs models vs picture doesnt always hold up .

I'm doing my first demo in Glasgow a week next saturday. Any more tips about potentially confusing situations that might arise? I'd certainly appreciate it.

I've run many demos for Warmachine in my pressganging days, but that's a totally different dynamic. I want to include as many people as possible. Any chance of a demo breakdown from you Kris?

i almost always start with the first scenario , if they want top play again , then we go on to other scenarios .

i set it up , have all the units out on their unit cards , aranged on the table to look nice with all the other materials .

for their first demo , i choose the units for each side . for the germans : ludwig , laser grenadiers , battle grenadiers . allies : pounder , BBQ squad , and gunners squad . i explain to them that i have chosen these units for them to use for the first scenario so that they each have a similar walker , and 2 units capable of damaging the walkers .

briefly explain the rules for movement , LOS , etc ...

as they set up , make sure to warn them on the first turn to watch setting up in the 4 open corridors .

if you have 2 newbies playing each other in the first scenario , if you see one making an OBVIOUS mistake , warn them of what they are doing , and why it would be bad . if its just you and one other player , take it easy on them so they dont die right off the bat , since they are new to the game , and dont know all the nueances .

i like to have each new player get the full sense of the rules , so i take them through all the rules : shooting , CC , cover saves , special rules of their squades , sustained attacks , etc . occassionaly suggest that one player or the other (being equaly supportive ) do something to direct them into situations that help make that possible " if you move your x squade to x (adjacent to one of their opponents squads ) square , you can make an attack on Z squad " which then helps get them into CC .

compare and contrast the game to others out there to show its strengths .

i also have a few phrases or ideas that i like to throw out there or drive home :

"this game is instant gratification " , you dont waste time with complicated rules , or activation rules like 40K where one players whole side goes and then the other , which slows the game down , YOU ARE IN THE GAME , from the get go .

at pressent , "dust is a minis game that is being developed and marketed in a way much similar to a board game if all you want is the starter , then you dont HAVE to buy ALL the expansions or units to be able to play , evenif an opponent HAS bought some or even all of them " as opposed to traditional minis games like 40k with broken rules driving sales over actual good content .

"dust is the FIRST 20 , and LAST 20min. of saving private ryan " this game is much more action packed and cinematic than other that get bogged down in rules .

"you cant go wrong with german zombies"

lots of gamers are exmilitary , or military history buffs , most will have a favorite tank or plane or what ever from the real WW2 "this system is simple enough that for casual play , you can make your own units " , if you have friends that are OK with it , its easy to add in regular 1:48 scale vehicles or planes . and there are planty of house rules out there to help .

some people look at the initial buy in and think its too expensive " the starter contains every thing you need for 2 players to play on an equal footing , and does NOT require you to play with scenarios that handicap one side or the other , or FORCE you to buy more figs right away to make it fair " . unlike alot of starters , this is all you need to have fun . alot of other starters have seriously lopsided armies inside , so while they may cost less for the starter , they pretty much MAKE you buy new stuff right away to play . so in reality , DT is cheaper than most other "starters " in that regard .

show them the rules book AFTER they play the demo " this is all the rules you NEED to know , and i just took you through ALL of them , YOU NOW KNOW THE ENTIRE GAME " .

"DUST IS WAR "

and beyond all that , tell them why YOU like it so much .

Excellent mate, cheers!

I've already introduced three new players in Glasgow who have never played wargames before and they can't get enough. People at my games club, G3 are sticky on the price tag, but the games that they play cost a bloody fortune between models, materials, scenery and endless rulebooks. Hopefully I can convert another few to the true faith ;)

Great advice, thanks. I'll let you know how it goes!
