I'm thinking of starting a Blood Angel Assault Marine and I was wondering which of the Special Abilities is better: Wings of Angels or Wrathful Descent? Also given the Jump Packs of the Assault Marine how problematic is staying in range for Squad Mode since they are capable of traveling much faster than their Battle-Brothers.
Assault Marine questions
I like wrathful decent for two reasons:
A: My Assault Marine is a Space wolf, and so doesn't cater to flying about, swapped Jumppack for Stalker Boltgun.
B: You'll bump up your Close combat damage a lot over the course of the game, this is one of the only ways to increase damage against a horde via melee.
Range of 'squad mode' becomes moot later, so don't let that sway your choice.
Depends on which direction you want to go with him:
Hoard killer-Wrathful Descent
More one on one-Wings of Angels
I am playing a Blood Angel AM and i chose Wrathful Descent, because you can upgrade your damage output versus single foes by raising strength or getting access to better weapons, whereas such things are mainly irrelevant when fighting hordes.
If u play RAW, Blood Angel AM have one solo ability that put all squad tactics useless.
Only if you elect to use it, and only for ...what is it... 1 round per rank.

On the other hand once you have a few ranks under your belt, activate that and Feat of Strength on consecutive turns, and watch the fur fly...
I *do* think that Space Woofs are woefully underpowered in DW.

I chose Wings of Angels for my Black Templar Assault Marine Brother Wilhelm, as I like to kill bosses in a one on one in melee and like to challenge the most powerful opponent around. Our groups Ultramarine Devastator on the other hand is the one for killing Hordes in our group and I also see it as my roles to keep the bigger beasties away from him so that he has an open field of fire with his Heavy Bolter.

Sad but true.
Although a bitter little part of me considers it payback for all those years when they were arbitrarily more powerful than every other Marine chapter for no clear reason...
The errata and RoB pretty much solves the issue, though. Instead, Imperial Fists are the new Space Wolves.
