just bought this and had a question...

By Tyrant242, in Mansions of Madness

Have read the rules and am trying a walkthrough solo just to get a feel for it, but when reading my Keepers guide I ran into a bit of confusion. Each of the 5 scenarios has 3 different approaches, but only two prologue narratives. And the numbers on the prologues are not the same as the scenario number. Am I missing something here?

I haven't read all the scenarios, but each of the ones I have been Keeper for there was an intro based on I believe the final question. That is what the number of the intro matches - not the scenario itself. IIRC.

Also the majority of the background for the scenario is in the Player's portion along with the board set up.

Hope you enjoy the game!

Imanfasil has it correct: the two different intro texts correspond to where the highest number clue is located (the first one to find) to start the investigators on the correct trail. The details of the objective are revealed to the Investigators in Clue 1 (the final to find), which is why each scenario has three Clue 1 cards, but only 2 for the rest.

That said, if you feel like expanding the flavour out more based on a particular selection, you may consider the excellent piece written by Kazi that adds details to rooms, clues, and the Startling Evidence card to flesh out a full story. Sadly, there is only one specific set-up option covered so far. LINK

Thanks for the help. After waking up this morning and getting 8 good hours of sleep, I reread the keeper guide and deduced what I had been missing. After a long day at work, you should not try to learn the rules to a complicated game! Again thanks for the clarification

Sorry I've been slacking off :D I'll start working on flavor text for another one soon... Any requests?

The intro text is the "initial clue" that leads to the first of the clues on the board that the investigators need to find. It does not detail every choice that the Keeper has made. It just puts the investigators "on the trail" for where they need to go to find the next clue. Remember, each clue leads to the next one, until the final clue is revealed. Thus, rather than having the investigators search blindly until they find the first clue, the game provides a short narrative that leads to the first clue that they have the find.
