Campaign Idea; Ordo Xenos

By Elohiem_Militant, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

I have this idea for a campaign where:

  1. An ork waagh is about to hit on the edge of the calixis sector.
  2. The planet that they expect to encounter the orks first is an Eldar maiden world that due to an adminastratum error was colonized by the imperium between visits from a craftworld.
  3. The Craftworld's migration pattern puts them at the maiden world just before the orks are going to arrive.
  4. Billions of thrones are being spent to get defenses to the maiden world and it would cost billions more to move them away before the eldar arrive.
  5. Not to mention undoing all the preparation that went into defending the world and greatly weakening the defenses.
  6. The planet has been colonized for a few hundred years and is vital to the calixis sector due to its wealth of natural resources.
  7. Ordo Xenos would like to negotiate with the Eldar by offering up a recently excavated eldar artifact.
  8. The Artifact has recently been stolen by the Tech-priest, now heritek, who uncovered it.

Race against time to recover the artifact, to keep the eldar, and preserve the defenses of a vital imperial world....

Pretty good campaign base to me.

You can also add more Xeno element; the Cell have some Aspect Warrior (or Farseer, whatever) with them to supervise and handle the Eldar artefact, or as watchdog as the Imperium lost the relic to tekheresy, the Eldars would prefer a more 'hands-on' approach on that situation to not loose it agian for another long period of time.

maybe pull a Eldar double-cross; they are in fact, controlling the Orks to attack their world to kick the humans out, but are passing as willing to trade a maiden world for some ancient relic. And with that relic, the Eldars can use it to power up some big weapon (or the relic IS a weapon) that will clear the planet of both Orks and Imperium presence and protecting it with some sort of 'artificial' Warp Storm for another 10 000 years or so. So now the cell must track the relic down in some ancient Eldar ruins on the planet and stop the Xenos from activating the weapon....not to mention having to deal with a WAAAAGH.

The planet does not have to be vital for the Imperium. The Imperium is stubborn and willing to fight over most worlds. Otherwise, these radical idea sounds good. But I wonder what the Inquisitor would have to offer that the Eldar would give up a Maidenworld.

In addition, there is no need for a "clerical error" for the world to be settled. I do not think that the Imperium cares about if a given world is something a xenos race wants. As long as the Imperium wants this world.

My Thinking is, that it was known to be a maiden world and was forbidden, the clerical error was: Someone screwed up and it became colonized.
Now the Ordo Xenos hopes that by offering up the Artifacts to the Eldar they will leave the area in peace and forget about the world. No Guarantees.

I was going to have appearances of orks and eldar (I really wanted to put the creatures anathema to use). For my maps I was going to just straight steal them from the HALO: Combat Evolved Strategy Guide.

My Current Group is Rank 3, and we are going through the "House of Dust and Ash" and might continue into the Haarlock Legacy. Who knows what rank everyone will be when that's done, I'm thinking 6? So The party should be able to handle the Xenos...

I've just mid way through reading Disciples of Dark Gods, and it inffers that the Eldar don't have any maiden worlds in the Calaxis Sector of space as the Eldar see the area as cursed. Most puritan Inquisitors wouldn't "deal" with the Eldar by negotigation, rather sharp end of a sword or the business end of a gun. You could have some riuns on said world that contained the "relic" that the Eldar want, there could also be a webway portal on the world, left over from eons past that the eldar used to get there, now you players have the choice a battle on three fronts, the orks, the eldar and the heretek. The eldar are going to go after the relic regardless, as probably are the players, team up or destroy each other before the orks get there.

My two cents feel free to ignore it all

I am beset on all sides by Heresy!

Pg 77, Creatures Anathema, Bottom of the page, "maiden worlds":

"A number of in the remoter parts of the calixan sector--notably those alonbg the migratory rout of the Craftworld Kaelor, including seeworld AFG:218--are designated as maiden worlds by the eldar....Many of these worlds have been pioneered by early imperial settlers, who reamin ingorant of the their world's origins and bone-like structures that scatter the remoter corners of its surface. Most historic conflict between the eldar and the imperium within the sector have taken place on such worlds... Understandably, the Ordo Xenos takes a keen interest in such worlds, and often maintains a discreet presence of it's own amongst the colonies."

I was going to have the orks just kinda fling advanced scouts at the planet, and one such ship of orks shoots down the acolytes as they are decending to the planet, forcing them to have to get their barrings. This was also going to be a small part of a greater operation, where the acolytes are not working alone, as this is very important.

I have been thinking about some Ordos Xenos related adventures myself, and I was thinking of running The Frozen Reaches from Rogue Trader as a Dark Heresy adventure instead. Seems to have the right feel to it. Of course it would be a little higher level to give the Acolytes the inquisitorial authority to direct the battle against the Ork WAAAAGH!!!!.

In my campaign, I thought that Orks- the most iconic of the 40K races- should have a toe-hold in the Calaxis Sector, and not be limited to uncharacteristicly small bands, so I rules that the Gelmiro System (listed as War Worlds on the Calaxis Sector map) is currently besieged by an Ork Waaagh! from across the boarder. It only counterdicts one tiny bit of info (a single line in the Inquisitor's Handbook that says that the War World status is due to a revelotion in progress). A good chunk of Battlefleet Calaxis is currently dedicated to quarentining the system until reinforcements promised by the Segmentum government arrive.

Hope that's helpful...

Then you have not read the Creatures Anathema. The Battle Fleet Calixis is under orders by the Ordo Xenos to give the Craftworld Kaelor's migratory path wide birth, and to blockade any ships from coming into contact.

It states that they keep people away from the migratory pattern when the Craftworld comes every 10000 years, Also, a maiden world need not be in a craftworld's migration pattern. And to those who say that there are no maiden Worlds in Calixis, look at Seedworld AFG 218 or some other number.
