Weapon Question Leviathan

By warhawk1955, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

The card for the weapon Leviathan states that the steath die needs to be roll every time the weapon is used. Can anyone explain the background for this rule? It seems that it just increases the chance to miss.

Yeah, I think that's the idea. It's a weapon that does more damage but hits less often than other weapons of its level.

Of course, since monsters frequently go down in one hit anyway (at least in vanilla), that basically just means that it's worse than other weapons of its level. Unless you're attacking a monster that already has Stealth , so that you'd be forced to roll the die anyway.

Exactly lengua.gif This weapon, like many others, is more powerful than other weapons at the same level (red and 2 green dice at copper!!), so it is like a curse.

Sounds like you want a thematic explanation.

Its a really, really, big, heavy sword. So big and heavy that it is clumsy to use. So although it does a lot of damage when it hits, it is also easier for monsters to evade its attacks - therefore they get a stealth die effect, which nicely simulates them evading an attack which would have otherwise hit with a normal weapon.

Thanks All I really liked the thematic explination.
