Miskatonic preview for King in Yellow

By Brine, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Awesome! I like what I see. Now, the Act deck can pose an even greater threat!

Does that card have no effect if Atlach is in play???

Cthuga prevents you from even drawing any Environment (Weather) cards, but Atlach-Nacha only prevents Mystic Environments from coming into play. You still draw the card, so Overture would function normally.

Heh... I can't wait to see the rest of the KiY changes (I'm dying to know if they fixed it properly).

Oh no! I'm dead! Now I'll never know ;.(

::Facepalm:: Of course. Thanks for clearing that up Solan. Stupid me!

And here we have our first concrete evidence of "multi-expansion" cards. The symbols for both Dunwich and KiY are in the Blight card. In other rules, nothing's off limits in terms of saying "You must own all these to use this card." YAY!

? No, actually they showed us that in an earlier preview ;'D but yay anyway.

Uhm, so Act I is now forced to start in the first turns. But what about the new 4 Act cards?

Are they Act cards or Next Act begins cards? If they are Next Act Begins cards, you could add one to the Mythos deck per board that you are using.

If they are new Act cards they might offer variants on Act I, Act II and Act III - no more pay two seals to discard. Perhaps they cause Investigators to sacrifice allies or lose Sanity. The overture, a new Act I card, a new Act II card and a new Act III card (awaken the Ancient One immediately) means that you're never entirely sure what that accursed play will throw up next.

Looking at this, as well as the new whispers mechanic they announced in the new Dark Pharaoh, it appears they are trying for some anti dilution mechanics that aren't dependant on the mythos deck or other encounter decks that can be watered down. At this point it wouldn't surprise me if none of the announced Act cards are Next Act begins but are instead things like Intermission and other play timing events that pull you through the three acts.

That would be good. But, unfortunately, Dunwich and Innsmouth gates still depend entirely on the Mythos deck, and I can't imagine a new mechanic to open gates on those boards instead of in Arkham.

Someone mentioned new Mythos cards that depict an expansion gate and an Arkham gate, and you open the expansion one when that expansion board is in play. This would sort of work, but you'd still need to add more like it if any more expansions are added in the future (let's hope?).

Yeah I mentioned that. But that would still be subject to mythos dilution. Possibly the "new" Dunwitch Horror herald will redirect gates, possibly they won't be addressing all the dilution issues. Time will tell.

I wonder if they new Mythos cards will have both a arkham gate and innsmouth, dunwich gate on them. You only open the other one if you are playing that expansion.

I do not want to have to use a herald to keep a major expansion relevant.

You know what would be a really sick effect? Something that caused all gates in the main board of arkham to move to unstable expansion locations of your choice...

Act cards are the yellow-backed cards set off the the side. The cards that say Next Act Begins are Mythos cards, so I think it is safe to assume they are actually Act cards.

I have never won a game playing the King in Yellow. This will just make me hate christ even more

shattered... or explained?

you know, the jews doesn't call God God, they call him G-d, as not to name him. as if he's .. unnameable. coincidence? i think not.

We all know the REAL definition of the name "Yahweh" is "the unnameable"! And the Pentateuch is really based off of "The King In Yellow"...

If you read the genealogies, you really will go insane.

So if I'm reading this correctly then Voldemort is Jesus.
