I've read the comic series twice now, but who's side is the ape actually on (the card says Axis) as he changed sides before dying and why did he do that?

from what i've learned from other mini games, whats in the game and whats in the fluff are 2 completely different things look at 40k for example 5 space marines should be able to kill an entire tyranid army and yet you need 50 of them.
