How do Heros retaliate in close combat?

By TeamBZ007, in Dust Tactics

If a hero is being knifed and he retaliates does he do this with one dice or the number of dice it says on the unit card? Like with Bazooka Joe where he has 2/1 for knife & grenade on his unit card would he retaliate with one dice or two?

I had this come up when a squad and a hero attached to it was attacked by another squad by knifing. My friends and I thought the hero retaliating should get what it says on the unit card (squads too with similar stats) because they have better hand to hand training and it would not mater if they were the attacker or defender. I would like the ruling on this so I can play it correctly and if I ever decide to do a tournament.

Thanks

I don't think heroes gain a units weapons, I'd just take the values on the card.

2 dices the 2/1 means 2 dice does 1 damage each if it said 2/2 that means you roll 2 dice and it does 2 damage each and on the opposite the Bazooka does 1/3 on vehicles that means you roll 1 di per model in the squad and it does 3 damage each.

and no you do not swap weapson on unit cards what joe has is what joe has.

Sorry for the miss communication. I did not explain myself very well. I never thought there was weapon swapping or the hero gains weapons from a squad. I just could not find anywhere in the rules about any unit (hero or squad) that stated more dice than 1/1 for knifing when they retaliate. Nevertheless, my question was answered. You roll as many dice as the unit card stats regardless if the unit is initiating or retaliating close combat with knifes or grenades.

Thanks
