"Small" Russian forces

By boersma8, in Tide of Iron

I couldn't help but notice that the Russian armies, that is the infantry numbers are rather small compared to the base game US and German forces. The same happened to the British in DoTF. We then got the other half of the British forces, making them just as large as the Americans and germans, in the Normandy expansion.

I'm kind of hoping this signals another Eastern front expansion (or perhaps an army pack) which will give us additional Russian forces to recreate huge battles!

I second that!

(and third, fourth or whatever...)

Smaller historical campaign packs would also be nice.

Now that we have the winter boards, all that is needed for the Ardennes in 1944 are overlays with wooded hills and snowy streams and a pack of scenarios, maybe three small campaigns, Bastogne, St. Vith, Barraque de Fraiture and maybe some other actions.

German disruption attempts would also lend themselves to small unit actions with extensive use of the saboteur specialization.

Add to that a few new vehicles, and there we are.

The same goes for Stalingrad. Add some Russian figures, heavily armoured Sturmgeschütze with 150mm cannons, ruined-city overlays (with better rules for destroyed buildings than in Normandy), and we can play campaigns for the train yard, grain elevator, tractor factory, and the Mamayev Kurgan (a central hill in Stalingrad).

Seconded! Note though that a lot of the fighting in Stalingrad took place before the onset of winter (from late August to November), so some Summer maps would be needed too.

I don't like the destroyed building rules too much either. perhaps that explains why they are not used in FoTB at all. The same goes for the weather rules, to a lesser extent. I guess heavy ruins should be impassable to vehicles, "regular" ruins/ light ruins should be at a movement cost of 3 or so and perhaps some kind of movement roll.
