City Expansion

By Galahad2, in Talisman

I was working on approximately 20 cards which were a mixture of events, strangers, shopping opportunities for all four corner spaces.

Adding extra boards is all well and good if there is a purpose to it. The dungeon looks awesome and if there is a separate realm to explore that could give several different routes to victory (be it lots of advancement or a portal to the CoC), then that's great! But at the same time, the 4th ED board is huge and the 4th ED Dungeon looks massive too. How much space does one game need to take up (I'm looking at you, Mighty Empires :D )?

However, I think having some random cards for each corner isn't so good an idea. After all, what I think the game needs is variation and more storytelling opportunities.

Places like the Forest, Crags, Tavern, The Graveyard etc are all great spaces for some thematic craziness/opportunities to give that variation and add something to the quest for the crown.

I had toyed with the idea of adding in specific Quests for objects which had specific rewards, possibly leading to an alternative ending to getting the Crown of Command. Having thought about it, I'm not convinced that's a good idea as, certainly, I now believe that the POINT of Talisman is to get the Crown.

Alternatively, I was thinking about the Talisman equivalent of that great RPG/CRPG staple - "SIDE QUESTS" :D Basically, you would get a quest from a source (no further details yet!), do something and then go back to the source and get a reward (I'm thinking a wish - Gain 1 Strength, Craft, Life, Gold, Fate or Teleport). But I'm still thinking about it.

That said, I've thought FAR too much about Talisman lately and should really try and get on with some other projects ;)

Maybe you could buy a house and store objects there? Unlikely it will happen but...

Best idea yet! Does anyone know if this type of thing (buying a house) has ever been done in an adventure board game? I think this is a seriously cool idea with lots of potential.

With all these houses to rob the expansion could include a Cat Burglar character.

"Does anyone know if this type of thing (buying a house) has ever been done in an adventure board game?"

I have seen it in a Talisman type game I found as a free down load. I don't know if it will get me in trouble if I mention the name so I will let Talismanisland jump in...it was linked from his site.

It would be easy enough to impliment but I am not sure of its value.

Here is a simple way to add one more thing to the city, Bounties.

If a character beats a Bandit, Goblin, Ogre or Vampire they can take it to the City and exchange it for a quantity of gold equal to its strength/craft. You don't get to claim it as experiance towards increasing your stats.

You can do the same at the Castle with a giant and dragon...maybe even earn a Talisman instead.

To me, that's the same thing as saying that it would be difficult to implement.

One of my favorite things about playing the Morrowind computer RPG was setting up on a piece of real estate and how it tied in with the development of your character. I'm not saying it would be easy to make it work with Talisman (there would have to be more incentive than just storing your extra equipment), but that's why game designers get the big bucks, right? gui%C3%B1o.gif

well... people can always make custom city adventures or wildernis cards for themselves.

It's a lot of work to make a seperate deck for the main board that has something to do with the city.

The best option is to add cards that has something to do with the city in the deck from the main board or into the deck from the city itself.

The most important thing is that the city must become a interesting place to visit. And not for only buying or selling objects.

------

The skavens are invading the city from the sewer. each turn that you are in the city, draw a special card from the event deck to see what happens.

Or something like that.

You can add cards that they kill all strangers and human enemies in the city gran_risa.gif

Then there is some action there gran_risa.gif

I am actually hoping that there will be a bow shop included in the City expansion. gran_risa.gif

On the main board, you can buy nowhere arrows or crossbows. sad.gif

It will also be great if FFG will included a shop in the city where you can changed to neutral !!

More cards about neutral must also be added to the deck !

Sewer Creeper (Str: 3, Craft:3, Fate:4, Life:4)

When rolling a die for movement, if you started your turn on a city, village or tavern space, you may make your move as if you originated from any one of those three spaces you choose.

When rolling a die for movement in the dungeon, you may roll two dice and choose which die to use.

You may evade any player in the dungeon, city, village or tavern if you roll under your craft on one die.

Hey, let's have a "sewer expansion" to the "city expansion" happy.gif , it could be filled with rats, lost treasure, mad sorcerer, troll, and the Sewer Lord demonio.gif

Cheers

Sorry, I forgot, Sewer Lord can only beaten by character capable of summoning a "bath and hot shower" spell!! partido_risa.gif

Cheer

As I've said elsewhere, I don't want to add to the size of the existing board, so I'm not interested in the Dungeon expansion or any other expansion that takes that shape.

I would, however, be interested in an expansion that changes internal components of the base game board. I think FFG could produce alternative cardboard tiles that fit over individual spaces. So a new tile card could be placed over the city space, for instance, with revised instructions. Someone over at boardgame geek did just that with the tavern:

If FFG wanted to be even more awesome, they'd coat the bottom with a thin layer of rubber to prevent the tile from sliding around.

If FFG can make cardboard tiles, then they may changed from me, some runes spaces, back to wildernis spaces !

2 Wildernis spaces= draw 2 cards ( from third edition) demonio.gif

1 Runes space= Draw 3 cards ! demonio.gif

Yeah gran_risa.gif why not cool.gif

Then the City gets finaly a ending boss, who threat the city there ! gran_risa.gif gran_risa.gif

If FFG can not make it on one board, they can make a new one then, to add it to the city board gran_risa.gif

This would be awesome !! gran_risa.gif gran_risa.gif

Peter Hansson (Spindisc) made a fine Sewer expansion for 2nd Edition which sat "below" the City.

It's certainly worth a look!

Yep, that was indeed great, as most of Hansson's work. He even managed to put decent art on his cards, for the most part. I hope he's up to converting some of his expansions to 4th edition.

I have check the site there, and there are some very interesting cards.

It would be nice if Peter Hansson(spindisc) made some for the revised edition)

Some cards that i like are: Dragon Toad, Winged Frog, disturbed bath of the fey, sewer mermaid, and fairy toad mother( except text)

If we get the City expansion, i am also wondering about what they do with the Enchantress, Doctor and Alchemist.

Normally in third edition, they are including in the City expansion, but in 4th edition, they are on the main board,

Maybe that the City board can overlap the city space?

Or just keep it as it is....Mmm preocupado.gif

The City is ruled by the Emperor,

Maybe we can assassinate him and then we must fight tons of guards on your way back to the City Gates gran_risa.gif

WANTED: Dead or Alive ! demonio.gif

Flyers are hanging overywhere demonio.gif

Guards are coming at you and shoot with their crossbows gran_risa.gif

Hi Velhart,

Wow, we talk about trying to get arrows for 4er and you go and push for crossbow?

Ok then, arrows with the forest expansion, crossbow with the city expansion! demonio.gif , trebuchet with the timescape! partido_risa.gif

This will be a very mean game soon. gran_risa.gif gran_risa.gif

Cheers

haha partido_risa.gif

Well... plenty of arrows and crossbows can be sold in the City gran_risa.gif gran_risa.gif

Crossbows 2 gold ( one use only)

arrows 1 gold

--------

Maybe they can add special arrows too like poison arrows etc

What do you all want to buy in the city.

I am thinking about:

Arrows, bows, magic potions, spells, horses, different weapons, armour etc

Maybe some new ones too...

I don't like bow and arrows of third edition, i prefer that you have a bow and you can use it for X times, cause you have X arrow (and you can buy other arrows in the city or village, or at market). It is strange that it's possible to use a bow without arrow (?) for only one time °° (?). I prefer some logic consequences ^^''

You have a point..

Bows should not be discarded. Only arrows must be discarded, and if you don't have one, then the player must buy some at the city etc

This makes more sense actually, instead of discarding the bow too, for a +2 in battle.. ( a bit weird he;)
