Printed strength in cards like To Be A Stag and Desperate Tactics

By the1andonlime, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

To Be a Stag
[baratheon Event]
House Baratheon only.
Play only if you have at least 1 Power Struggle plot card in your used pile.
Challenges: Stand a baratheonbw.png character you control to return a baratheonbw.png character with a lower printed STR from your discard pile to your hand.

Desperate Tactics
[Neutral Event]
Any Phase: Return an Army character you control to your hand to put an Army character with a lower printed STR into play from your hand. At the end of the phase, return that character to your hand if it is still in play.

Does the reference to "printed STR" apply to both the characters or just the second one?

e.g. for To Be A Stag, can I stand CS Melissandre (gets +1 STR while standing) to return a copy of Melissandre from the discard pile?

My initial guess is that it refers to both characters (i.e. no to the example). Am I correct?

If yes, are there any examples of card text that refers to the STR of one character and the printed STR of a second character?

Thanks in advance.

I think it is a given that this refers to both cards, as cards not in play don't have any other strength than their printed strength, so it would be moot to make that restriction only apply to them. You are comparing the printed strength of both cards.

It is indeed referring to the printed STR of both cards.

There aren't really any examples of cards that compare the "effective STR" of one card to the "printed STR" of another. Not that it couldn't happen, only that it hasn't.
