And the beat goes on - 2 Champs and a Chump Episode 14

By Dobbler, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

So Episode 14 lacks the two champs, but the chump and the drunk carry the flaming sword...err, torch!

Come listen here to Will and Fox as they discuss Brotherhood decks and the most recent HBO featurettes!

THank you for a grate show. Kind of miss you dobble but i hope disney world was fun.

Whoah, wait.... you mean someone actually liked this show? I was really just expecting a bunch of complaints about Fox's hair. Lol

will i thought it would make you feel better. Fox was the star of the show.

I had very mixed feelings about this episode.

The Good
This is the first episode that thoroughly explored different house options for dealing with a particular mechanic...both how to play withagainst Brotherhood. I especially liked the discussion of solutions to Beric. In this respect, I think the episode was a resounding success. In other words, PLEASE approach episodes in the future by discussing the strengths/weaknesses of a particular mechanichow to use it. After all, one of the major features of this Podcast is supposed to be Strategy (I think). (In contrast, past episodes have seemed almost tangential to the game at times...often getting into the weeds, reading through tons of text on cards that nobody uses, etc.)
The Bad
You guys sounded SUPER tiredunenthusiastic (did you record this at 3amsomething?). Also, the first 15 minutesso was likely the most boringdisengaging podcast material I've listened to (sorry to be harsh, but just to give you a reference point). I'm not sure what happened, but it basically felt like a rambling of random thoughts about the HBO series. Also, as a whole, the conversation lacked structure.
Finally (and this isn't your fault), I think some of the discussion was quite a bit lighter than it would have been had the other two regulars been weighing in. I know there isn't much you could do about that, but just wanted to let you guys know.
Hope these (constructive) criticisms help. I really look forward to similar topics (executed a little more strategically) in the future.

You should include just absolutely wackycrazy sound effects like a rubber chicken being squeezedthe sounds of a car alarm. I don't know why you'd do it. But it'd be funnyamusing.

When we first launched the podcast, I know one of our intentions was to capture the feel of "guys just discussing the game". Its one of the reasons our first two podcasts took place in the car on the way tofrom a tournament. While things like strategytactics are good discussions to have, I never felt like it was going to be a major feature of the podcast anymore than attempts at humor, basic information for all player types, topical discussions for current issues, fun little "bits" like combossuch.

I know there are all types of podcasts out there. Some are light heartedhumorous. Some are serious. Some are filled with direct information integral to the topic being discussed. I'm glad we have gotten so much feedback on our show in attempts to make it better. But I also know that the expectations for content we have internally may not be the expectations of content for others. A more experienced player wanting deep, in-depth strategy for the game (like yourself Dan) will likely be expecting something different than someone wanted to listen to something lighthearted about a game they enjoy to fill up an hour of their workday on Fridays. We will try to meet the expectations of all listeners, but I know we can't.

Yeah, Greg, I definitely see what you mean. I don't mean to push you guys in an unintended direction. Chances are, I'm mostly in the minority on content issues like this. If, however, my view points resonate with a lot of people, hopefully my feedback will help focus in on what exactly that perspective is (or its implications for your show).

On the execution (a separate issue from content), I think the show has improved a lot over the past month or so. This particular episode, however, I found to be a little slow. Again, that might be only personal preference, and because I listen to a lot of Podcasts (I average 3-5 episodes every day), I've probably also been somewhat "institutionalized" by a certain type of production. (I also recognize that you guys aren't professionals, and lack the resources that professional podcasts have to plan/execute a show.) Nevertheless, I hope that my comments are at times helpful, as I always intend for them to be first and foremost constructive (rather than just negative criticism).

Generally speaking, I am trying to just leave you the most sincere, accurate feedback I can that reflects my own views. I assume others do the same, and hope that you guys can somehow take a look at all the feedback you get and distill out some (potentially helpful) tips/suggestions. So I don't feel offended if you disagree, and I hope you don't feel offended if I disagree either.

Overall I'm really enjoying this Podcast.

As far as our enthusiasm level goes, I'll be honest, it's just not the same without ZeilerGreg, so we were a little down about that. Lol, now don't let that go to your heads, guys. Just being champs isn't everything. Lol.

fyi, one thing not pointed out for the lanni/brotherhood deck is the anguy/joff team up. load the deck up with lord/ladies, get to 9 powervalar. get 3 power for lordsladies dead3 power for anguy.

Oh, that is also an exceptional point. In fact, just a touch of trait manipulation to go with that could be pretty awesome. I tend not to think of Anguy enough obviously, despite being one of the most awesome cards around.
