My First Game

By Major Mishap, in Dust Tactics

Dust Tactics arrived today so had to have a game to see if it played as well as it looks - and it does.

We played the first scenario and because the rules are so easy, there was practically no looking up rules or charts which a lot of games do now like malifux or 40K where all the players seem to do is look up rules. This mean't that we could spend out time playing and having fun and importantly, concentrating on tactics to win the game rather than finding rule loopholes and reading rules.

The game gets a big thumbs up 10/10.

Coming from 2nda bit of 3rd edition 40k,Malifaux myself, I was totally refreshed by how simple DT is while still offering enough strategytactics to appease that part of my head. My friendI were able to play our first game in about 45 minutesobviously messed up a ruletwo, were then able to play through the first 4 games of Operation Blue Thunder in about 2 hoursso. If that was a game of 40k we'd still be on turn 2.

Totally loving this game so farcan't wait to see what the expansions bring.

you dont spend all day when waring , looking up rules and charts and STUDYING , if thats what you are into , may as well give up your gamer card , there will be no countryside left for you to pillage ! may as well take up knitting , or join a quilting circle ........................... or a bridge club .

psssst . DUST IS WARRRRRRRR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pass it on !

RAAARRRRR QUIIIILLLLTTTIIIIINNGGG CIIIIIIIRRRCCCCLLLLEEEEE!!!!

Hold on, I totally got the wrong end of the stick there:

WWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

There, that's better.

I couldn't agree more about this game. I'll admit to being a bit flighty when it comes to wargaming. I play fantasy, 40k, Incursion, Malifaux, Warmachine and AE World 2 among other things, but something about this game has me chomping at the bit for new releases in a way that those others don't.

I can honestly say that I haven't looked at any other miniature games since I started playing this and that is highly unusual for me. If anyone wants to read about my first battle, or any of the others, then take a peek at my blog, (see my signature).

As the Inquisitor is so fond of saying, (and quite rightly so) DUST IS WAR!

I absolutly agree

Although i havnt played it personally i have seen videos of tip-top Warhammer and Warmachine play

Although they compensate for the lack of war by putting WAR in their names, these videos are about 5-6 figurines moving around stupidly for about 30 min, then about 40,000 dice being rolled (thus warhammer 40K) and after about an hour of work, someones says "THAT WAS AN AWESOME FIRE BLAST, IT TOOK OUT LIKE HALF MY ARMY" and that guy takes off about two pieces from the board

I will say the coustom maps made with turf and rocks look cool though and i will recommend you all look at the fan made tabletop rules

i only say that cause i enjoyed playing them, if you dont like it dont

AND THUS WE ALL REMEMBER WHY WE CALL IT A GAME!

You don't have to throw away the grid though to have decent looking terrain, I love the grid, makes the game a lot smoother, less rules and easier to play. (PS I come from a table-top miniatures background of 37 years) Hopefully on Tuesday we will be playing on and taking pics of our first full terrain gridded board :)
