Just looking for feedback on which expansions are the best to have. Just purchased a core set and a few expansions, but I'm wondering if I missed some critical ones. How much does the "dragon" expansion add to the game?
Which expansions are a "must have"?
Dragons are very unique Creatures, so having them really adds a lot to the game (flight, high-level creatures, breath attacks, etc) but it's certainly not a must-have. If any expansion is a must-have, then I'd expect it would be CtA. After that, it's completely up to your preferred style of play - do you like the DwarvesGoblins a lot? Do you want to add a bit of roleplaying/campaigning experience to the game (Heroes expansion)? Want to expand the human side of things? Totally up to you. They're all built to function by themselves with the Core set.
Thanks much
Sounds like Dragons adds some dynamism to the game. I'll have to see if I can find it somewhere.
Call to Arms would be the "must" have expansion - the other expansions depend on your tasteall. Heroes might be the 2nd "must" have -even that is "debateable".

I agree that CtA is the first must-have. I would then go with either Bearded Brave, Horrific Hordethe Hundred Years War as my next pack, depending on which race you prefer. Those are the best, IMO, expansion for each race.
As to whether you want CreatureDragons first, that's a matter of taste.
Cool, I was just about to post the same question. I picked up a copy of the core setwas pondering which one to get next.
I'd go for Epic,Call to Arms first - they add a newdifferent way to play (epic) that feels grandermore strategic. CtA also adds a great way to mx up gameplay so no two games are the same.
After that it depends on what you want:
Heroes add some fun rules, especially if you're going to play against the same opponent regularly.
CreaturesDragons add some great fantasy elements that are really fun to add to the game. Plus it allows more beasts on the board - always good!
Hundred Years War, Bearded BraveHorrific Hordes are all very good troop packs - they add some great elements to the gamenew units that mix up strategiesso on in a really fun way.
The other GoblinsDwarf packs are all great little expansions that ad some fun units into play - it's good to own all the Goblin, HumanDwarf packs to make fuller use of the CtA cards in Horrific Hordes, Code of ChivalryBearded Brave.
I haven'tt played with Code of Chivalry yet - but will be getting it when it hits shelves here in Australia.
A great game - with everything it makes for a hugely variablevastly customisable game - one of my all time favourites!
Cheers,
Giles.
Edit: Be aware that some of the scenarios in Heroes, Dragons, Creatures, HoHo and BB require some of the other earlier troop packs - however, there are also scenarios that don't.
If anyone opts for the Days of Wonder expansions, I just bundled them together and put them up for sale on Boardgamegeek.
Thanks for all these great responses. I guess they were pretty effective in making expansions for this - I want them all now after reading these posts! Hundred Years War and Dragons seem a bit tough to track down. At least locally. None of my FLGS got repurposed Hundred Years sets in and Dragons are all sold out. Ah well.
Just received the base set, Goblin Marauders, Dwarven Batallion, Call to Arms, and Epic in the mail yesterday. Hooray!
Thanks for the heads-up. I just ordered the Hundred Years War off eBay. There was only one available here in the states. Thanks again. (still hoping for an elvish army someday)
