First game, epic fun

By Tyrichter, in Mansions of Madness

I just played my first game with 2 other players (one of us as a keeper, of course) as Joe Diamond, and I think, that with Private Eye perk (and the other one, which gives him luck 3) it´s a pretty strong character. BUT I was just cursed or something - every time I rolled a die, it rolled 1 higher than I needed. I had WISDOM 7 (I think it´s called wisdom, right?), I rolled 8. I had Marksmanship 8, I rolled 9. I´m not exagerating, it really happened about 10-12 times in a row! So instead of playing with a strong armed investigator, it seemed I´m playing as a clown. He was just running around, getting crazy, he dropped his guns two times (although his insanity didn´t reach maximum), just a plain clown.

But why am I writing this? Because the end of this character was just so funny, I had to tell someone. We were playing scenario 1, I think (4 cultists have to unite in chapel and summon some monster). My colleague investigator set the chapel on fire, but the keeper was planning to enter it with 4 cultists at once, and immediately make the ritual, so he was gathering them in the next room. So, we decided - if Joe Diamond walks through the chapel to the room with cultists and kills one, the ritual cannot be done, right? We did it. My clown walked through the door directly in front of the cultists, passed 3 horror checks, failed one. And in THAT moment the keeper used some spell that made Joe feel itchy, so he began to scratch himself, dropping the **** GUNS! Well, my hero was out of movement points with only 1 hitpoint (technically dead), so I attacked anyway, maybe I get lucky, right? NO! "You kicked your opponent in the knee." 1 damage. Just great, I thought.

Then it was keepers turn. BUT he didn´t have enough points to move the cultists, and refused to attack Joe, because two of his cultists just exploded during their special attack :D (after the game, we found out, that only one cultist has this special attack, so it happened twice with the same cultist!) Anyway, in the next round, Joe attacked again and got lucky! He killed the injured cult leader (stabbed him in the eyes with his fingers)! And as you know, you then gain his robe! So, IN FRONT OF ALL THE OTHER CULTISTS Joe put on the dead leader´s robe and tried to run. And failed. One of the cultists recognised him (how it could happen? :D) and poked him with a stick. And killed him. Yeah. So, that was the end of the heroic clown Joe Diamond, who was just getting beaten by cultists, half of his miserable life spend in a box hiding, who was afraid of the dark, dropped the guns twice and killed the cult leader the most heroic way that exists. I´ll miss him :)

Anyway, I liked this game more than Arkham Horror. Great atmosphere, great fun. I can only recommend.
