By Astropath Richard, in Rogue Trader

I am a first time GM. I am hosting a Rouge trader game. My players are intrested in adding Stargate SG1 elements to W40k. Specifically they wanted to throw in a Daedelus class ship.

I was wondering if anyone had experience with this.

Ehhhhhh. A Daedelus, compared to 40k ships, is tiny . Seriously, it's about a eighth of the size of a Raider-classed vessel. The best I could suggest would be to give them access to a pre-Imperial variant ship that looks like a Daedelus. If your players don't want to use a Navigator, you could keep the hyperdrive functional, albeit possibly damaged and temperamental in its aged state.

Thanks

Other than the possibility of Stargates (though in 40k they'd either be warp portals or webway portals), none of the star-ships from Stargate would be much bigger than some of the shuttles used to carry supplies or troops. It's pretty much a no go in that regard.

I don't have experience with this specifically, but I also don't see a problem with it. If your players want to imagine themselves flying through space in an SG1 ship, let them.

If the issues already raised concerning the scale of the ship are a problem for you, then you can just say it's a ship that looks an awful lot like a Daedalus-class SG1 ship, but it's scaled up to be comparable in size to an average 40k ship. Find a deckplan for a Daedalus-class ship on the internet somewhere and draw it up, breaking down where all the slots go and whatnot. I'm guessing the only thing that matters to your players is that they get to imagine their ship looks like this. So what if it's actually 8 times bigger than SG1 canon says a Daedalus-class ship is?

If they want to go as far as changing the mechanics and removing the astropath to have an SG1-style hyperdrive, well, okay, if you're willing to let them. I'm aware the OP didn't say anything about that, but since the point was raised, I'll address it. If I were a GM in that position I would probably take a moment to confirm whether or not they actually wanted to play 40k or if they'd prefer to play an SG1 RPG. I'm fine with letting them re-skin their ship however they want, but I wouldn't want to spend all sorts of time writing up a good and proper 40k-style game only to have the players constantly pushing it towards SG1-style themes.

Don't get me wrong, I love Stargate too, but it's two very different flavours of sci-fi. I'd prefer to know which one my players want so I can give it them instead of forcing them to play a different game and watching them min-max it into the game they actually want to play.

Hi there,

is there SG-1 affiity quenched with the Daedalos -ship-thing? Otherwise, with a little tweaking your could have some of the Space of the Expanse under the control of some alien race similiar to what you see in SG-1.

Otherwise, I suggest you to center your gaming around the Priest-Kings of this desert world (I forgot the name) with the control of the water and all of their followers utterly loyal to them. Sounds similiar, me thinks.
