Fantasy Flight Games is excited to announce the upcoming release of a revised edition of The Curse of the Dark Pharaoh, an expansion for Arkham Horror. An ancient curse has fallen on Arkham, and it is rumored that several mysterious artifacts have gone missing from the “Legacy of the Pharaohs” museum exhibit. Yet, anyone who seeks these lost treasures finds only horror and madness.
The Curse of the Dark Pharaoh (Revised Edition) is an updated version of the original The Curse of the Dark Pharaoh expansion released in 2006. The original expansion has since been enhanced with added mechanics and components, such as the Exhibit Encounters deck which gives players a more direct way to retrieve Exhibit Items, and the Patrolled Neighborhoods, which makes sleuthing about Arkham even more difficult. In addition, this revised edition comes with a Herald sheet for the Dark Pharaoh himself. Here’s a look at what’s new to this revised edition:
Exhibit Encounters
The Curse of the Dark Pharaoh (Revised Edition) lets Arkham Horror players explore ancient powers through Exhibit Item and Exhibit Encounter cards. Exhibit Items are legendary relics of the mysterious past, able to aid investigators in their fight against the Ancient One, and Exhibit Encounter cards let players search for Exhibit Items specifically.
In the original Curse of the Dark Pharaoh, players could only acquire Exhibit Items through random encounters. However, in this new edition, there is a more direct way to get your hands on these cherished artifacts.
The Ancient Whispers marker moves around Arkham, representing rumors and reports pertaining to the museum’s missing exhibit items. Investigators who encounter this marker will draw cards from the Exhibit Encounter deck, potentially finding a powerful weapon or spell. However, strange events often befall all who seek these mystical artifacts, so do not pursue them heedlessly...
The Dark Pharaoh Herald Sheet
The revised edition of The Curse of the Dark Pharaoh includes a Herald sheet for the Pharaoh himself, the Avatar of Nyarlathotep. His dangerous presence makes it more challenging for investigators to uncover the secrets of his artifacts and origins. While his curse affects the town, players will slowly be driven insane by acquiring his wicked relics.
Patrolled Neighborhoods
In light of the strange events happening around Arkham, the police have begun to take notice. No longer can investigators stroll through neighborhoods brandishing their guns and occult paraphernalia without repercussion. Certain Event cards now cause Patrol Markers to be placed on the board, which
represent patrol cars keeping a close eye on the neighborhood. Investigators will need to sneak by or risk being arrested.
Other Additions to Arkham
On top of these new additions, The Curse of the Dark Pharaoh (Revised Edition) also contains Benefit and Detriment cards, which provide investigators with good and bad lingering effects. Also included are 90 Ancient One cards, 21 Spells, and 7 Allies.
This expansion will be compatible with the upcoming Miskatonic Horror expansion, which will add new Exhibit Encounter and Exhibit Item cards.
Listen carefully, the ancient whispers are calling. There is no escaping The Curse of the Dark Pharaoh, coming this spring.
