Excel-Based Character Sheet

By AndYouNeverWake, in Anima: Beyond Fantasy RPG

So I finally got a chance to look through it. I found the "Notes" page. That was useful. This character Generator is going from great to greeeaaaaat.

There is obviously some stuff that is still missing, but nothing that cannot be added in if you have your book with you.

The next thing I would like to see is point limits for the different parts of your character. You know how fighter type character can only spend 60% of their dp on combat stuff. And you can never spend more than 50% of your points on Attack + Defense.

I don't think the character sheet needs enforce the limits, but it should at least post where you are at.

very cool keep going.

Hrathen, thanks. Also, did you steal my Fix List when I wasn't looking? It's like you know what I'm working on next! DP spending limits are next, right after I finish adding Advanced Martial Arts. I've already fixed the Weaponsmaster weapon group cost issue and the Tao martial arts costs (my first idea failed miserably), but I'm waiting to post until I have full natural penalty / wear armor support for equipment, which is actually almost done.

I read your comments in the other thread regarding removing some of Anima's rules. Well argued. You may have found it odd that I am writing a character sheet for a game I don't much seem to care for. Frankly, I do too. For some reason, though, I don't think I'd still be playing if I hadn't made this. In any event, I'll keep hammering away to make this sheet perform most of the tedious character generation functions. I'm really looking forward to having full Advantage support, which I think will mostly wrap up the project. I still want something a bit stronger in the way of GM monster creation tools, but I really don't know what or how to make that happen, so keep your ideas and comments coming! Also, thanks for pointing out the Attack and Defense limit; I had forgotten about that.

Mmm, tasty! I hope to use this soon. I'll say this, the presentation is excellent. Just a thought: you might keep a nicely organized "version history" or to-do list so testers have an easier time getting up to speed and making useful comments.

And Version 0.8 has arrived! Why 0.8? Because the Equipment section is now complete! Barring any miscellaneous bugs or incorrect formulae, everything should work fine. As always, there are some issues. I did check the sheet in OpenOffice - it's serviceable, but the print sheet tab does not fit within a single page as it does (rather nicely, at that) in Excel. I'm not sure how to fix this, though nothing important gets cut off. In fact, the whole layout seems a bit different, which has the unfortunate effect of skewing my formatting. I may need to update my OpenOffice Calc, though, so I'll keep you posted. Also, I tweaked the Martial Arts section, such that you can now select a single martial styles whose bonuses to attack, block, dodge, and initiative will be reflected on the Character Sheet tab for the purpose of any single action. I'm not entirely sure about this addition, but I include it for feedback - if there's a better way (and I'm sure there is), let me know what you think!

As of this version:

  • Penalties accrue to initiative for multiple armor layers
  • Magic and Psychic Weapon Modules are now available in Weapon Groups
  • Slight reformatting of the Character Sheet tab for aesthetic / layout purposes
  • Added DP spending percentages - been meaning to do that for a long time
  • Added helm perception penalties
  • Fixed Weaponsmaster and Tao weapon group and martial style DP costs, respectively
  • Secondary skill penalties based on equipped armor now calc
  • Added an Update History tab (thanks madgibs!)
  • Added Advanced Martial Arts

Got a lot of work in, but there's still plenty to do. I'll make some minor fixes to martial style bonuses, and then most of the rest of my efforts will be focused on Advantage support, unless you good people can think of something else. I've come quite a ways from my original goal of simply calculating Primary and Secondary abilities - thanks to everyone who has commented on the sheet so far!

And here it is, folks:

Version 0.9. Advantages and Disadvantages now work, but before you get all excited, keep reading. I've included the bonuses for dis/advantages that actually would affect my character sheet. In other words, Severe Allergy and Vulnerable to Cold are marked with an asterisk, because they wouldn't consistently change anything on the sheet. Other items like Superior Magic Recovery, Focus, and Aptitude in a Subject (you're welcome SSB_Shadow!) function normally. I have multiple "levels" of multi-option dis/advantages, such as Natural Learner 1, Natural Learner 2, etc. I have done this for each item for which it would be useful, which you will notice immediately upon having to scroll through them all.

Now, after more than 60 hours of staring at a laptop screen, I've almost certainly made a mistake somewhere. Please let me know what issues you encounter as you test this and other sections of the sheet. I still need to make tweaks to the martial styles, and the next thing for me to work on (after a break!) will be fixing Open Office compatibility. Don't get me wrong, the sheet still works in OO (100%, as far as I can tell), but it looks terrible, even after updating. I may post screenshots of both versions so you can see the difference yourself. Honestly, I have no idea how to start fixing that, but perhaps one of you kind souls with OO experience can help "localize" this version. And now, to get some sleep...

I am very pleased with your updated form. Good job. ^^

I haven't found many issues yet. I only got thing one here:

The helmet's protection bonus are stacking along with the main armor. I don't think it should. It only protects the head; not the body.

All right, found some stuff now (with my post above in addition).

The Development Points that are spent in Psychic Points and Psychic Projection does not get accounted for in the "DP Spent" slot.

Right below "DP Invested" right next to "Life Points" (at J-3 in excel) does accout for DP spent but doesn't increase anything. I've often used this spot to dump DP where it doesn't register in other places. Maybe it should be removed or moved to another spot?

Thank you for taking the time to make this. I asked about something like this months and months ago when I first came across Anima and there really wasnt much out there.

I'll be sure to put this application through its paces!

Wow! It's really been some time since the last update! I meant to take a break, but not one quite so long as that. To be honest, I've really just gotten tied up with a new job and my own DnD campaign. Maelstrom and SSB_Shadow, thanks for testing. I won't be playing the game anymore myself (the rules and I were ultimately incompatible), but I will still work on the sheet if you have issues, so feel free to let me know!

I'll have the items above and a few others I've found sorted out shortly, so look for an update soon! I believe that points spent in Zeon don't count against Supernatural DP limits, and I have to double-check armor penalties on skills to make sure everything works as it should (I think it does, but my erstwhile GM said he thought something was missing). As always, let me know what else you find - I want to continue (reasonably) speeding up character creation where ever possible. And yes, SSB_Shadow, you're correct about the helmet protection values - they don't stack. I'll have it fixed up soon. Thanks again for sticking out the wait!

Alright, I've updated the last link I posted with the new file, which addresses the helmet protection value issue, the psychic point and projection DP issue, and the life point DP issue. Now, helmet values are separate, life point multiples calculate as they should (the previously blank space is now where you spend the DP), and DP totals should include everything. Keep the problem reports coming! I'll try and be a lot quicker about replying now that I've gotten used to my new schedule. I have not yet figured out what my GM was saying is missing from the armor penalties, but we'll meet and go over it (probably this week) in order to make any necessary changes. Thanks again for testing - just download from the previous link and you should be set!

I enjoy this system. This is going to make characters so much easier to pump out. Thanks for putting this up.

I've been working through the generator, trying make all the characters that come in the Game Masters Tool Kit, and I found that there is some stuff missing from the print page.

1st it might be good to make the print page only black and white. I have a color printer, but don't want to use that much ink for every character.

2nd combat stuff needs to be there. Like the data from the equipment page.

This is really cool. My biggest comment is that I want you to keep working on it.

Mediafire.com [the site where this sheet is uploaded at] appears to not be working for me here [MidWest USA].

Could someone kindly email me the latest file update for this excellent spreadsheet?

Thanks.

Thanks! IT has not arrived in my inbox yet, might have been caught by spam filter and removed :(

However, I was finally able to get through the host site and download it myself. Thank you again for sending it.

I just wanted to say that your Excel Sheets here have been very helpful in assisting me in understanding some of the more basics of character generation. Prior to discovering Anima [which I bought due to the excellent art and I wanted something that could "Anime" RPG different then BESM] I was a D20 Modern / Palladium / Rifts / Heroes Unlimited Player and GM.

So again, thank you for your efforts on this project.

Some problems that I see and/or do not see...

1. No place for Weapon Modules, Style Modules

2. Does not support "Lost Souls/Nephilimi" from the Corebook

3. Due to not having or support weapon modules, I am unable to select "Unarmed combat module".

4. It still charges me 50 DP for my first Martial Art even if I do not select any other weapon modules. Oh wait, I can not select any other weapon modules.

I have found "Unarmed" style on the sheet, but it does not seem to provide the +20 Initiative bonus for being barehanded... Gives the +20 base, AGI/DEX bonus, Class bonus and Martial Art [if any] bonus.

Great job on the Excel character generator.

I started building one of my own yesterday, and only found yours when I was searching to see if anyone else had entered the various data tables.

I've taken a radically different approach with mine. It's not nearly as elaborate as yours, but I'll still share it as perhaps you or others may find it interesting.

In reviewing your data tables, I noted one apparent error in the character classes section. I only caught it because I just rolled up an Acrobatic Warrior and the numbers did not match to what I did by hand.

Worksheet Tab: Data Classes

Cells: X4 and Y4

Description: You had 5 for Block instead of Dodge.

Unless there's been a revision I'm not aware of, per page 33 the Acrobatic Warrior gets +5 Attack per Level and +5 Dodge per Level, not Block.

Thanks for the help! Happy new year to all, btw, and if I may, a question:

is this (version 0.8) the latest version available?

Is this still being worked on? It's a wonderful tool, would be a shame if not.

Couple of things:

  • It'd be great to have the Gaia skills added in :)
  • Paladin's Social skills are listed at 2:1 when it should be 1:1

Is there another link for the spreadsheet. Just tried the original one and got a message stating that it is not valid.

Or if you can send it to me at [email protected] that would be great.

Thanks
