the duration of masks (exhibit items)

By moons1, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Just to make sure I'm using the masks correctly... The description of, for instance, the Mask of Vice reads:

"Any: Exhaust to place tokens on this card equal to your current Sanity. Then choose one of these unused characters: Michael McGlen, "Ashcan" Pete, or Jenny Barnes. You gain that character's unique ability while you have this item.

Upkeep: Do not refresh this card; instead, discard 1 token from it. If this card ever has no tokens on it, return it to the box."

So if I have 5 sanity, I can only keep the mask for 5 turns (from the turn I start to use it)? Is that correct?

Or can I use it for one turn when I really need one of the characters ability, and then stop using it (and therefore stop discarding tokens from it) for some turns when I don't need it, and then use it again at a later time?

That's the idea. You're wearing the mask for as many turns as your sanity when you put it on. The turns are consecutive and for some reason or another you're compelled not to take the mask off.

So far as I can gather, you can wear multiple masks at one time. Though I've never considered what happens when you try to trade the mask away. Are you disallowed to trade an equipped mask? I'm going to say that you aren't allowed:

If you're allowed to trade it and it keeps its tokens, then that seems like a cheap way to give the boost to low-sanity characters.

If it resets when traded, then it's too exploitable.

I'd say it's tradeable with the same amount of counters, and yeah it's a bit cheap to give to Harvey Walters to pass off to Mark Harrigan (not that he has time for that sorta thing). But I don't see it as too exploitable yet. Then again I haven't put in thoughts about mask combos, as well as possible new masks coming out
