day and night

By sserre, in CoC Rules Discussion

Hi,

i just played recently Coc with day vs night deck and we encountered some possible situations which need clarifications.

when you play a day or night card, which destroys then day or night cards, does that include also chars which has the night subtype or are
only the cards destroyed with night or day in their text.

for example. If you make it day, then you destroy all night cards in play. Does then also this destroy the creature shoggob which has night or not?

second question.

it is possible to have it day and night at the same time. What happens then with those ghoul creatures that say:

day: while it is day , sacrifice ghoul....
night: you can play ghoull... from your discard pile.

So, when this creature comes into play it goes directly to your discard pile, from where you can play it again, to get back in the discard pile... this is a looping situation... So i this case the combination of day and night at the same time is a disadvantage for the night deck.

Can anyone clarify these questions. thx

1) Shuggob would be destroyed, as well.

2) Ghoulish Hag would have to be sacrificed as soon as she entered play, so putting her into play from the discard pile wouldn't do much good, unless you can profit in some way from sacrificing your characters...

thx m8 :)

You have to distinguish between "day" and "night" cards and cards that "make it day" or "make it night". You may have "day" cards in play when it "is not night" and "night" cards when it "is not day". So you may even have "day" and "night" cards in play simultaneously if it is neither "day" or "night". But it's not possible to have cards that "make it day" and cards that "make it night" in play at the same time - because all cards that "make it day" are "day" cards and destroy all "night" cards when they come into play and all cards that "make it night" are "night" cards and destroy all "day" cards when they come into play.

So in the game it either is day or night or neither, but never day and night at the same time.

While I'm not familiar enough with all of the cards to give you a situation where it could happen. The FAQ specifically allows it to be both Day and Night if there are cards causing it to be both Day and Night. You can find it in the Card Effects section of the FAQ.

You have an insane day dreamer in play.

The Day Dreamer
[Neutral] Twilight Horror F17 / Illustrator: David Sourwine
[Character] - Dreamer.
Cost : 2 / Skill : 2 / Icons: AA
Game Text: Day. It is Day. After The Day Dreamer comes into play, destroy all Night cards. Action: Pay 2 to put The Day Dreamer into play from your hand. If The Day Dreamer is still in play at the end of the phase, sacrifice it.

I play a night card on my turn.

On your turn, you restore the day dreamer
