my game groups psyker is good. too good...

By psykohippo, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

i am a gm in a dark heresy group. my problem is that our groups psyker useses the new psyker rules in ascension where you can use your powers fetterd, unfetterd and pushing them. my problem is that he allways use them fetterd and suddenly he got all these awesome powers. BUT NO RISK AT ALL!.

i am not sure if i sould make some restrictions or just go with it. would like to hear your apoinion.

(sry for the bad spelling :/ )

Why is the psyker using the options from ascension in the first place??? As I understood it only a psyker who has been practicing for years and years and who has a high psy rating should be allowed to do that. That is the ability to control the amount of energy coming through the warp, not something a brand new psyker knows how to do.

Hi Hippo,

I did the same mistake (house-ruling this rules to be available to a non-Ascension psyker). And I do regret it as well.

I cannot take it back in my case, since my player is already annoyed about my back-and-forth houseruling-thing. And I am to much of a sissy to go through this discussion again sonrojado.gif

If you, however, have the guts to be a man (or woman), tell the player that you will cut this out (again) since it is unbalancing the whole affair.

I assume the characters in your group are not Ascended? If they aren't, they shouldn't be using the advanced psyker powers.

Did you mention the rules to them first? or did he stumble across them and start implementing them? If it is disrupting play, and there are so far no negative consequences for his actions, tempt him with a demon. If the psyker is weilding too much power at a low level, have some warp entities be attracted to him. Have him fight for control of his mind. Have a inquisitorial grab-team of untouchables to swoop in, null him up and drag him off back to the Black Ships for some reconditioning.

If they are ascended, and they are just playing the game as their rules allow, however, there is not much you can do apart from upping the difficulty of monsters/demons going against them, or have enemy psykers go up against him, trigger some warp phenom.

The psyker in question here: I misread something and we have now resolved the matter. We have decided that I will use the usual rules for psychic powers in Dark Heresy, so thanks for helping my gm making the ruling before I got any powers that have any direct effect in the game. (Only two major powers I have are Dowsing and Personal Augury)

Good on ya!

I'm even frowning on the psyker of one of my player and he even plays it cool and by the book, but Spasm and Deja-Vu can be a killer in any combat.
