Grapple Action, why not Basic?

By Lautrer, in WFRP Rules Questions

Hallo Jungs,

does anybody know why this is not a Basic Action? I mean, everyone with two, or more, arms or tentacles can grapple. I just want to allow my players and NPCs to use this Action as a Basic with an additional misfortune dice.

What do you think about it?

Generally I plan to use the house rule if a PC or NPC wants to use a Action which he doesn't have he is allowed to use it, if it makes sense. But he cannot only use Enhance Action on it if he has bought it.

(Sorry for my grammar in English!)

A number of actions represent things that "anyone could reasonably try" and I think the way to handle it is to make it "Perform a Stunt" (take away extra special boon/comet results that only the Action Card gets you) and add a challenge die or couple of misfortune dice. For example "Threading the Needle" provides the rule for shooting into melee for someone good at it, others do that with less effect.

Yes, Threading the needle was also one of those Actions or the Net-Throwing-Action in the Creature's Guide.

Anyone can grab something, but not everyone has received extensive training in the finer points of grips, holds, throws, takedowns, pins, and everything that a grapple action card would represent.

I think the main difference it that Action cards represent a specific, trained ability. So anyone could try to grapple someone, but the Grapple Action provides a number of specific benefits that someone without that card wouldn't get.
