I really hope they don't go the standard Hollywood route of getting someone who's actually very pretty and just having her made up to look ugly at the start, then gradually blossoming into a beautiful flower etc etc.

Doesn't look like they will. Winter-is-coming.net posted the casting call for Brienne some time ago, which included:
"Must be a MINIMUM of 5’10″. Do NOT submit actresses that look like models. We are looking for a big, WARRIOR-TYPE woman that’s more MANLY than womanly."

Thats pretty refreshing that they are at least attempting to come close to how she is described in the books.

I think Charisma Carpenter would make an okay Melisandre. I dunno how well she can act in a serious role (I've only seen her in Buffy/Angel and The Expendables), but seems to be she'd have about the right look. As for Stannis, I think John Noble, while a truly great actor, might be a little to old for the role. I always pictured Ed Harris. And I'd like to suggest James Callis (Gaius Baltar from Battlestar Galactica) for Davos, though Wenham would be okay too.

Anyone seen anything on the taping for Season 2? Has it started? Did they get any of it last year when they were at location (probably not since Season 2 hadn't been announced, although considering they renewed it after the first episode maybe they told then earlier?)?

They start shooting in Ireland next month.

July 25th is when shooting starts on season 2.

As far as Brienne, what about someone like Diane Delano

She's probably a bit too old herself, but someone along those lines.

The lady from the beginning of Boondock Saints too; I forget her name and am too lazy to look. :)

Willem DaFoe

Bwahahaha. Funny, but I think he means the really butch feminist in the meat packing plant.

~How about the gal from Bridesmaids for Brienne?

j/k - I just want to see her in something else, she was hilarious.

Well played. You're actually thinking of Dot-Marie Jones... she's currently playing Coach Beiste on Glee.

Wow, she IS Brienne:

"15-time World and 6-time National arm-wrestling champion"

Just saw that - GRRM seems pumped about it, so I am excited. She is...a large woman to be sure.

Hodor!

Fun little note, I looked up this actresses height (6'3") and when doing a google search, one of the sites listed was TV Fanatic posting the news and used the LCG card as their story image. FTW!

So - its up for an Emmy for Best Drama (Won't win: Mad Men has a lock on that award for some reason) and Peter Dinklage is up for Best Supporting Actor for Tyrion - and THAT he has shot at. Good news - and pretty much what I expected. I didn't really think Emilia Clarke or Sean Bean would get nominations - though I read some speculation to that effect.

I was hoping Bean as well, but he wouldn't be supporting I assume, and that is hard in the series. Two nominations are not bad, especially Best Drama.

Mel and Stannis have been cast.

Link.

Legos? Really?

What are we: children? I;m not amused.

You know, many people would think people who play card games and read fantasy are children, so it is all in the eye of the beholder. Don't be so superior... lengua.gif

I haven't bought legos for years, but love looking at the Star Wars and these ones! Amazing that using existing legos he (she?) can make something so close to the charcacters IMHO.

She could play Randa, the daughter of Nestor Royce at the Gates of the Moon... the one who toys with Alayne on her trip to the Eyrie with Littlefinger & Lysa.

All I know is that when I was a lad I pushed a hoop with a stick - and it was more than enough entertainment for us. Lefo figures of ASoIaF characters.....harrumph.

I'm still waiting for the most important casting announcement. Who will play Patchface?
