q about telekinesis/aura and blast

By mooselord, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I played this lovely game a few times and there are some things that I canĀ“t sort out.

1. What happens if a hero with telekinesis moves a monster to a space adjacent to a hero with the aura ability? Does the monster take damage?

2. What happens if a hero hits an adjacent monster using a rune with an automatic blast 1 effect (Ice Storm for instance)? Does the hero take damage or is he immune the effects of his own attacks?

Any help clearing this out would be much appreciated.

1. What happens if a hero with telekinesis moves a monster to a space adjacent to a hero with the aura ability? Does the monster take damage?

To my knowledge of the rules, a monster moved with Telekinesis into space adjacent to a hero with Aura will take damage. Its when the Hero with Aura moves next to a monster that it doesn't take damage.

2. What happens if a hero hits an adjacent monster using a rune with an automatic blast 1 effect (Ice Storm for instance)? Does the hero take damage or is he immune the effects of his own attacks?

Heroes are not immune to their own attack, or the attacks of the other Heroes. That's why Blast is such a two edged sword, because you can easily hurt yourself or the other Heroes hitting a monster. Remember that Blast (and really all attacks) actually target the square the enemy figure is standing on, not the actual enemy figure.

This thread reminds me of a question I have. When a hero rolls his attack dice, does he HAVE to use the surges that show up? For example, one of the magic weapons has Blast 1 as a surge. If he is two spaces away and gets three surges, does he have to use them, which would then get him caught in the blast?

A hero does not have to use the surges if he doesnt want to.

Is there an official answer on this one? My read is that no, it would not take damage.

However I can see it both ways. It comes down to what you consider "moving" vs "being moved". Aura says the creature has to move into an adjacent space. ( each time an enemy figure moves into a space adjacnet) With TK, the creature isn't moving, it's being moved by some other power.

But then the decision here would also have to apply to monsters with Knockback throwing a hero next to a Hellhound. And this is actually going to be a more common occurrence, as TK only comes into play with a single skill draw. Knockback says the attacker may move the affected target up to three spaces from its current location. Does that count as the figure actually "moving" to put itself next to a creature with Aura, I'd say no. It's being moved.

That's my take at least, that Aura is not an offensive weapon. I would also argue that the Poltergeist card cannot put a hero in harms way of an Aura, cuz again the Hero didnt move there.

An Ogre using Knockback to move a hero next to a maser Hellhound is actually an example right out of the rulebook, and it specifically says that the hero takes damage from Aura .

That's right! I completely missed that example when I was looking for the answer. I mean, its not like its in a separate box or anything with pictures showing...the...whole...

Nevermind.
