More questions than answers

By player2202059, in UFS Rules Q & A

I run a game store in Lubbock, TX. We are starting to get people into UFS, and soon enough we will have enough people to run tournaments. I have searched and scoured this website as well as others, and the one thing that is stopping me from going full force ahead with this game at my store is the lack of answers to all the questions. I need OFFICIAL answers to these questions, as well as others i am sure to come. I am sure they are out there to find, but they aren't easy to find, as 4 or 5 people at my store have been looking for them. I'm hoping someone on here will point me to the answer or just answer them. Thanks for your time.

1. I have a copy of the rules, and the banned list. It hasn't been updated in a while, is there an up to date version?

2. Are the Warhammer cards legal?

3. What are the tournament formats? Is it similar to magic where only certain sets are legal? What is most popular?

4. For a store and gaming community just getting into this game, what advice would you as a veteran player give to me/my players?

5. How many sets come out each year?

6. What sort of tourmanet or prize support can our store have access to?

7. Is the game fairly balanced? there is nothing I hate more than a horribly unbalanced game.

1. I have a copy of the rules, and the banned list. It hasn't been updated in a while, is there an up to date version?

The tournament rules are somewhere on the site. I'm sure many can point you in the right direction. As for the banned list, the latest cards banned were the Injury Assets, Revitalized, Addes' Syndicate, and Military Rank. If they're on yer list, then it's the most up to date.

2. Are the Warhammer cards legal?

Nope.

3. What are the tournament formats? Is it similar to magic where only certain sets are legal? What is most popular?

Legacy: Think of it as Type 1. In encompases every set in the game.

Standard: Think of it as Type 2. At the moment we're currently in "block 2" which encompases sets from The Dark Path or Extreme Rivals (I can't remember which set came out first) and up towards the newest two sets.

Those are the two most popular, and there are different fan created variants such as "Brawls" and team tournies.

4. For a store and gaming community just getting into this game, what advice would you as a veteran player give to me/my players?

That all depends on what your player base is. If it's an experienced bunch of Magic players, then you can start a little more complicated, say with giving people all sorts of different types of starting characters and having them build decks around that.

If you're a bunch of brand new CCGers then I'd say start simple. I'm pretty sure Viewful Joe had a post in the General forums about good simple starting characters for new players.

5. How many sets come out each year?

Depends really. Last year was somewhat of a bad example given the fact UFS' rights were sold to a different company, and for the longest time nothing happened. This year however, I'm fairly certain there will be at least 4-6 sets released.

6. What sort of tourmanet or prize support can our store have access to?

Once you get registered as a "scout" (which is the term used for tourney organizer) FFG will send out various schwag for prizes out to whoever your distributer is, and they in turn send it to you. Usually it's a bunch of foil commons/uncommons as well as several Promo cards of all types.Occasioanlly even play mats will be sent out.

7. Is the game fairly balanced? there is nothing I hate more than a horribly unbalanced game.

"Balanced" is a relative term. Some folks will think the game is the most balanced game out here, while others will scoff and say it's horribly one sided. If by balance you mean all types of decks are viable, then yeah I spose so. Any deck can beat any other deck at any time if certain variables are met.

Hope that helps bro.

Cheers,

Brad
