New To game, Question on Basestars

By Raz_wolf, in Battlestar Galactica

First i'd like to say we've played once. I think we all throughly enjoyed it, despite us stumbling through the rules on a few occasions.

One thing i need clairfication on is base stars. So you start the game with 1 base star and 3 cylon raiders in play. What happens after your first jump?

Do they reset back to the start or are they completely wiped from the board. The reason i ask, is we never saw another base star the entire game. Are crisis cards the ONLY way to get a basestar back in play? Is there any way a revealed cylon can force one?

Sorry, cant find a way to edit. I forgot to mention we ONLY have the core game.

With only the base set, the space areas will clear as soon as you jump. After that, it is primarily crisis/super crisis cards, as well as 1-2 destination cards that will spawn new cylon ships on the board.

The exodus expansion adds a great new option called "Cylon Fleet" which removes ships to an alternate board. These ships then have the opportunity to build up strength and eventually return to the board, adding to the tense feeling of being pursued and also making the pilot characters more valuable. If you enjoy the game and are looking to expand, I would definitely recommend it.

It sounds like you either got very lucky or didn't shuffle well. There are a lot of attack crisis cards in the deck that will pop out cylons ships, including basestars. The probability of going an entire game without seeing one is fairly low, especially once a cylon reveals and starts digging for crisis cards.

What do you mean "digging" for crisis cards? You mean the draw 2 and pick one? Option? I wouldnt exactly call that digging. Or is there some other method i missed? Even the one super crisis card we saw was just a -1 fuel, moral, population? I think. No basestar spawning or the like.

Yes, the draw 2 / pick 1 option. What was the cylon(s) doing with their turns?

There's only one super crisis that's an attack, so it makes sense that you didn't see it.

Well, we had 2 cylons, Only one ever really revealed.

I was a cylon and revealed pretty quick, Mostly out of intrest of seeing the "other side" than any real tatical logic. Keep in mind this was all of our first time playing and i needed to feel out the rules and strats for being revealed.

As for what i was doing. Well obviously i was hurting any skill checks that favored me. Other than that, I was kinda lost and lived more "in the moment" as to what to do with my turn. IE if there were cylon ships i could control with access to an easy target that was chosen. I held the super card till the end, and used it to ultimately run them out of fuel. I pilfered a hand once, but that just didnt seem that useful or satifying at the time. Probally more due to my inexperience to the game than anything.

Ah, that'll do it. :)

Practically the only two things for a revealed cylon to do in the base game are activate ships if there are any out, or dig through the crisis deck for crisis cards that will make the humans lose. Typically you want an assault, and try to hammer a specific resource if that's not an option. Once a resource is low, you might hit it with a crisis instead of getting an attack, depending on how the game is going.

The expansions add more options for cylons especially Exodus, which has one option that removes crisis cards from the game and instead puts the cylons and fate in control of when attacks occur.
