Questions on Duregan Thorgrimson , general combat definition and scout units.

By ptzlm, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

Hello,

1. Can i use Duregan's Thorgrimson action several times during one 'beginning of the turn" ?

2. What is the definition of combat in this game : according to dictionaries it is

com·bat (km-bt, kmbt)
v. com·bat·ed or com·bat·ted, com·bat·ing or com·bat·ting, com·bats
v.tr.
1. To oppose in battle; fight against.

n.

Fighting, especially armed battle; strife.

and Battle is

bat·tle (btl)
n.
1.
a. An encounter between opposing forces

is it the same in WH:I

What I mean is that - when you attack with scout units and they are not opposed is it still combat? If you follow the dictionary it's not , unless we understand it in terms of players. It's obvious they [units] survieve as there is nothing to kill them, but than I don't understand it as combat it is just attack therefore my opponent doesn't have to discard one card.

CASE 0 : Another question regarding scout units - regardless of the answer for the first one - if I have a scout unit and have to sacrifice it at the end of turn - eg Dwarf Rangers after Reclaiming the Fallen - does it survive combat or not?

If battlefield phase is in fact combat phase - and from the way people play this game it seems that way - CASE 0 would resolve with discarding a card , if not opponent wouldn't have to discard anything as scout unit would leave play before triggering it's action.

No, the beginning of turn trigger only happens once. Imagine if you could play it more than once ... nobody would want that.

A dictionary won't bring you far in a game where you have to you use a rulebook for reference.

What I mean is that - when you attack with scout units and they are not opposed is it still combat? If you follow the dictionary it's not , unless we understand it in terms of players. A scout unit that doesn't participate in combat doesn't fight and therefore cannot use their scout ability.

CASE 0 : Another question regarding scout units - regardless of the answer for the first one - if I have a scout unit and have to sacrifice it at the end of turn - eg Dwarf Rangers after Reclaiming the Fallen - does it survive combat or not?

If the unit survived the battlefield phase it can trigger the scout ability. What happens after that does not concern the scout effect so yes in thi s case.

Yet there is no definition of combat in my rulebook.

So what is the definition for this game and what is the correct answer for my first question regarding scout units

There is a combat phase defined in your rulebook. A unit is "in combat" once it has been declared an attacker or a defender and until that combat phase is over. The combat phase ends with an action window. Once both players have passed in this action window, end of combat and end of phase effects trigger. If a unit attacks or defends, and survives till the end of this action window, then it has "survived" combat and its effect triggers.
