Mapmaker?

By Elias Holt, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

Hello there, fourth post on the forums and first topic I've made, wanted to know if there were any good mapmakers out there for the purposes of a WH40K RP? I've got Dundjinni (or however it's spelled) and Fractal Mapper, but I've not found exactly what I need in Dundjinni or on the download forums for it, and Fractal Mapper is more for maps of seas and continents, whereas I'm looking more for city maps to get a better feel for movement when in combat or investigating a murder or something along those lines.

Are there any reliable (preferrably free) mapmakers out there that would fit this bill? Or would I have to go through the process of making my own maps or working with Dundjinni?

Any help would be much appreciated, fellow Gamemasters!

Hi Elias,

I use Fractal Mapper, but not only for "world maps" but for the interior of buildings as well. As soon as you scale the maps accordingly, it is okay & the tool provides item for furniture and other stuff.

I do not know of better mapping software. If you look for ready-to-use maps for about 2 to 3 dollary, have a look here

Thanks for the reply, Gregorius. I'll try to scale the maps and see what I can do with Fractal Mapper, didn't realize it provided furniture (haven't used it in some time). If it doesn't end up working I'll use Dundjinni and see if anyone's posted something on the forums that I didn't see that I can use.

Those floorplans look nice, if I absolutely cannot make my own maps I'll look into buying some of those, they might fit what I have in mind for my acolytes.

Hi,

toy a little with "Symbol Set" and "Category" to the left. The scaling can be done under "Map > Setup" or "Map> Grid".
If you read through the "Help", you will even find a small tutorial about how to make "Interior" maps" . Look in the tutorial for "raised walls".

Thank you so much, I'll try my hand at making a map in Fractal in a few minutes' time, then.

For the interior of buildings MS Visio already helped me a lot. You can find a trial vesion for free in the www (Microsoft site IIRC). Even though trying to map Gabriel's Chase from TF already took too many hours for my liking and left me a little insane... gui%C3%B1o.gif

Wasn't that the point?

Dunjinni is tile-based programm and Fractal Map is drawing based.

My favorite tile-based http://rpgamer.nodens.locum.ru/editor/ 'couse there is nice industrial tiles collection.

Cartographer is nice drawing programm with a lot of addition symbol collections (modern, sci-fi). You can check it on their site.
