Too Many Gates seems "broken" for high numbers of players

By Preston Poulter, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

In the base game, the game ends if you have 5 gates in play with 7 or 8 players. Give that it takes 2 turns at minimum to close a gate, and since you start with a gate on the board, it seems like the game will end before everyone takes their first turn and there's nothing that can be done about it.

You are doing it wrong. The rules are that after the 1st mythos phase, EVERY player moves in the move phase, has an encounter in the arkham encounter phase, etc. It is not you draw a card, and one player has a turn, then you draw another card, and another player has a turn.

Sounds like you're having a Mythos Phase after each player's turn. At a normal rate, you'll have 5 gates open at the end of turn 4 (1 pre-game, then end of turns 1, 2, 3, 4). Each turn each player does Phases 1-4, then you do ONE Mythos Phase. You don't do Player 1's turn, Mythos Phase, Player 2's turn, Mythos Phase...

Oh, well there ya go.
