POD Card Sets (a la Space Hulk: Death Angel)

By MPOSullivan, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

FFG just announce earlier today their new foray into the world of POD card production. Their first products in this new line are two expansion sets for (the truly incredible) Space Hulk: Death Angel card game. This means that small runs of professionally-made card sets can be printed to the demands of the customer base. What I find very intriguing about this is that it now seems financially viable for FFG to release a set of cards, by itself, that is only ten to twenty five cards in size.

I don't know about you, but my first thougts upon hearing this news immediately jumped to WFRP.

With this new production channel, it would become very easy for WFRP to publish a set of cards that could be slotted into a set of WFRP cards and integrated into gameplay without the necessity of releasing a whole new box set.

I think it's pretty obvious that WFRP fans would like to see a set released that replaces the errata-d cards from previous sets. Five to ten dollars for that set doesn't seem that steep a price to pay, and one that I would gladly shell out my sheckles for.

But what else can we hope to see from this new production avenue? Personally, I'd like to see a set of really great social action cards. I know it seems obvious that FFG would be pursuing that in the eventual Slaanesh set, but just in case they don't go that route I'd like to file my petition right now. Also, I'd really love to see a set of cards that listed all of the stuff players could use during a Maneuvre and Rally Step. One card per player with the rules for each written down on opposite sides.

What about you guys? Any ideas for a small set of cards that could be added to the game that you would love to see?

(This could also be a way for some of you guys to add that fifth, sixth, or nineteenth player to your group, although I still think you're wrong and breaking the game for doing that. :-))

??. no. I would like to see that free of charge in next WFRP box set addon. Its not that I do not have 5-10 dollars or whatever. Its just BS that FFG has all of us deep in their...when it comes to appologizing...etc.

apart from that , yeah, let us have more products avaliable

FFG will not release Action Cards or location/Item cards in this way. They would earn less money, so that is not the way they will go. That is a company which has to earn money you are thinking about. Their publishing policy will not be changed out of good heart for the fans. Without pressure from customers exchange cards will not be released or a apology stated.

We have to move as community and build leverage to brinf FFG to publish an upgrade kit for the missprinted cards, for the error´s of FFG we have to pay.

My idea is to do fanart of great cards and elect the best of them, put them in a pack with the errata cards of 25 cards and sell it for 5 $. The benefit goes to a non profit of FFG´s choice. This would be a great move of FFG, bring the community together and help people in need.

I completely agree: FFG could do some very interesting things via Print On Demand for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. I would be very willing to pay $5 for small sets of cards, or even staple-bound booklets or half-sheets of punch-out counters. There is very little risk in putting out products in this format if the POD contractor is reliable, so there is no reason why FFG could not both experiment and profit by it with WFRP3 products.

Here are a few random ideas that would catch my interest:

- errata cards with multiple copies

- basic actions with quick-reference cards for maneuvers and rally step activities

- experimental cards, such as a Witch's Cat Familiar companion with actions

- "Unofficial" Mootland expansion - provided on an experimental basis without commitment to future support

- Variant Career cards with the opposite gender from the standard version

- Variant Career cards with art representing each of the colleges (and other gender)

- Cards to support a free download PDF adventure (or $5 PDF download adventure)

- Collectible alternate art cards

- Human NPC's in the Monster Vault card format

- Weapons with nifty art, and for common items

- Experimental Location card sets - locales for a particular village, town, or region

Non-card Products

- Monthly or bi-monthly magazine with short adventure and lots of variant cards described, available separately

- Alternate GM Screen
