[Scenario 2] Keeper can summon shoggoth every other turn?

By ArsenyK, in Mansions of Madness

In a game with 3 players, Keeper gain 3 threat every turn. On the first turn he summons 3 cultists using Summon Worshippers (1 threat) card, on the next turn he sacrifices them to summon a Shoggoth (3 threat).

This basically means that Keeper will have two shoggoths in both “ends” of the monastery by turn 4. Isn’t it a bit too hard on the players, especially taking in account that there are almost no weapons to be found on the map?

Thats right. Nothin tougher then chuck norris than chuck norris.

One the players in my games is useally doing the chuck norris thing. Walkin round with his dog and punchin evil in the face and makin it look easy.

Well, that does mean that three investigators have fairly free run of the mansion for four whole turns, with you not having any threat for spending on Mythos cards (although you may get lucky with a couple of free zero point cards), nor will you be getting any Mythos or Trauma to use. And to be honest, three investigators without at least one having a fair combat ability is pretty much asking for trouble, but in the case where they don't, one investigator getting killed and they'll likely to come back with a very combat focused character next.

And while there aren't any weapons, I believe there are a number of spell oportunities, which against a shoggoth is possibly a better option than relying on combat cards.

Yeah the wilting spell is brutal. 3 of the cards do 5 damage plus an effect.

Not only that, but several of the event cards are Cultist specific (and the Dark Ritual card is too), so you really shoot yourself in the foot by killing off too many too early.

However, getting a quick Hound of Tindalos out to stalk the investigators is another matter completely...
