POD and the LCG

By JerusalemJones, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I don't know how many people caught it, but FFG is now doing Print On Demand (POD) expansions for their games. POD, in essence, is when product is printed when ordered. The first announced POD products are two expansion for the Space Hulk: Death Angel card game. But there are lots of possibilities for POD. Inlcuding...

POD LCG errata cards.

I would never want to see the LCGs got POD, but I do think that it would be really great if we could order blocks or an entire set of all the LCG cards that have been errata'd. I know I would get a playset (or more) of all errata cards, if for no other reason than having to remember what the errata text is. And as a POD product it should be easy for them to create. Just correct the original card files and link to the print facility (and it's possibly all done in pdf format anyway, if their POD partner uses the same printers my wife's company does).

Does anyone else think this is a good idea, or just a waste of energy?

Sounds like a good idea.

Restricting it to just errata cards: why not!
Great idea JJ!

The reprints would be a great idea. Keeping up with errata on cards is a pain. Let's hope they print them.

Or how about singles?

I think a bunch of people could use 5-8x Val but not the other cards in the CP.

I wonder if this could be a way for them to let us complete playsets from earlier chapter packs without them having to reprint them...

I like the singles idea as well as the errata one. Would be happy to see those.

My concern about singles is that the quality of the cards might be off, which can make a difference in playing. It might not be so noticeable in sleeves, but in a regular deck it could be just as "marked" as the miscuts. And I know when I am testing out decks I am less likely to sleeve them. I would much rather for the old Chapter Packs they reprinted them in the new format or released a Deluxe expansion with 2x each single-copied card. I even think this would be cheaper, since someone pointed out in the POD announcement that it costs about .42 per card, and at 60 cards that comes to $25.20. Princes of the Sea was that price, and contained twice as many cards.

I could stomach a $0.42/card price point for PoD as long as the quality of card and print job does not change.
If we could choose the singles to be printed, it would be doubly good.
I say, bring it on FFG!

I wonder how many cards you'd have to order though to make it worth the shipping cost, especially for us Europeans. I'd also prefer reprints with the new collation.

$.42 would be worth it to me to complete playsets. That would mean what would normally cost me MSRP $20 or at the discount stores $14 to complete playsets would be about half as much. It would get me the cards I need cheaper while not undercutting the actual chapter packs if you need all the cards.

Some of the cards, like the Paper Shield counter, in the soon-to-be-released Queen of Dragons make me wish I could buy the boxed expansion x8 to fill out each of my decks.

I hope some affordable form of PoD comes through for LCGs!

I'm not sure they can guarantee the same card colors and quality... I mean we have variance as is with all the checks and balances that are in place, but if every single order for a LCG is treated as a separate order that is going to mean it is much harder to ensure that POD cards conform enough to the LCG cards for them not to count as marked... Hm. Then again I think sleeved cards are a must for tournament play (I think I read that in the rules somewhere) so it may not be an issue.
