MIU Weapon Interface

By Nightsorrow2, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

Greetings fellow traders, scoundrels, officers, bastards and warmongers. And no, none of these titles are mutually exclusive.

I am currently looking at a cybernetic inplant called MIU weapon interface. In short, it allows "user to fire an additional ranged weapon as a Free Action - using his full Ballistic Skill - no matter what other actions he may be taking at the same time. This additional weapon must be connected to the user via the MIU weapon interface, and are often equipped as a shoulder-mount."

Reading this, I have a few questions as to the specifics in using this inplant.

1. Can you mount anything bigger then a pistol sized weapon on your person? I know the forearm mount can only be a pistol, but I have not found any rules for mounting a weapon somewhere else.

2. When fireing the MIU weapon in the same round as another weapon, do they need to have the same target? The rules for fireing with two weapons is that the targets need to be within 2m of each other, unless you have the Independent Targeting talent.

3. Can the weapon only fire in single shot, or is there a reason to use a assault gauntlet or a bolt pistol for that matter, in favor of the "king of the single shot", the melta weapons?

It's been clarified by the devs previously that the MIU Weapon Interface does not allow you to shoot with multiple weapons per turn. Instead it allows you to shoot with your MIU weapon as a free action, which leaves a full action (or two half actions) to do other things. The restriction on one attack per turn in the book applies regardless of whether that attack is a free action, half action or full action, unless the item specifically states that it allows multiple attacks (like the ballistic mechadendrite, which can shoot as a reaction).

Bah, how annoying... Then the part "no matter what other actions he may be taking at the time" should have a "Except another attack" addendum... Oh well, makes sense I guess, though I would still like to have the other two questions answered (skip the one about targeting several people, kinda ruined now)

Thanks though

Well it also means you could do something like run, and fire your MIU weapon at the same time. Or if you're a explorator worth his agumetics hack a cogitator while firing. Sky's the limit really.

Targeting multiple victims is still done as per the rules in the book.

As for the last....not sure but I'd at least experiment with letting it use semi or full. Since you have to remain still to get the full effect from full auto, then it's not as big an advantage as it may appear to be. If you decide to use your full action to run, and then fire a full auto weapon with an MIU then you're at -10 to hit, plus any other penalties.

Also it seems most shoulder and forearm mounted weapons are pistol sized (as per the rules for forearm mounts). So unless you have a handy servitor hooked up to your noggin then it's unlikely you'll be using a melta gun.

I do beleive most of this is covered in the living errata as well. You may wish to download it and print it out to take to the game.

Aaah, after a more carefull look in the errata, you are right. Everything except if semi and/or full auto fire is allowed was covered on the last page.

It might be worth sending a Rules Question e-mail to FFG via the Rules Question link at the bottom of the page.

Perhaps allow an extra single shot as a Reaction or a Suppressive Fire attack for applicable weapons as a Half Action?

This would let players perform:

*Full Action attack + 1 extra single shot attack with no reactions
*Half Action attack + 1 extra Suppressive Fire

This of course breaks the usual only 1 attack per round rule.
