So, I just got the game...

By Doc Belmont, in Mansions of Madness

Is it disturbing that I have played the game only a few times and I feel it's already begging for an expansion?

I don't mean that there isn't enough material in it for it to be a good game. I'm saying that it has already replaced Arkham Horror as my favorite Lovecraft game. I feel like this game has the greatest potential for expansion of many other games I've seen from FFG.

Possibilities with this game are endless!

There are, of course, new stories to tell, each with the many permutations available to keep each story fresh.

There are scores of beasties to slaughter and be slaughtered by; Deep Ones, Dark Young, Formless Spawn, Gugs, and many more.

Plenty of material out there is possible for new map tiles, including more rooms and underground and outdoors areas. Hell, if you wanted more than just a single mansion, there's always the possibility of other buildings (Police Station, Library, Historical Society, Abandoned homes or stores, etc).

I was thinking about the possibility of "Other World" travel. It doesn't have to be done with map tiles, but with encounter cards.

More spells. I likes me the spells! :D

I play it, and it whets my appetite for more!

I agree completely! This game has "expansions" written all over it. Literally every element of the game can be expanded. My vote is for an Innsmouth themed mansion, maybe a gold refinery, shipping yard, or the temple for the Esoteric Order of Dagon. I love that story, and would love to slay some Deep Ones.

I only hope the expansions come around at about half the price of the full thing.

Oh, Lord, that just totally made me want a "Shadow Over Innsmouth" story to play through!!! gran_risa.gif

Have the very beginning put the Investigators asleep at the Inn, when they get attacked by inhabitants bearing the Innsmouth look.

YES! Win! Are you listening, FFG?! Please do this! Maybe some new tiles for a more "seaside" look. I can only imagine what Devil's Reef would look like on the game board. (sigh)

With 8 Investigator figures in the core game, I'm hoping each expansion will give 8 more, eventually building up the entire 48 figure set (5 expansions required).

I think we can rest safe that there will be many expansions for this game :) Summer time ffg? :D

I doubt 8 investigators per expansion. My guess will be maybe 2 or 3 investigators per expansion, with 5 scenarios per expansion as well a new tiles and cards, and new monsters.

Yes, Monsters, definitely new monsters!

Sounds good to me!

I'd assume that there would be fewer expansions with more pieces (like Battlestar Galactica), rather than a bunch of small ones (like Battles of Westeros).

I like the potential for cheaper "Story Pack" expansions, just containing a new Investigator's Guide, and new Keeper's Guide, and new Clue/Objective/Event cards. Maybe a few new items/story pack

Say 5 stories per pack: 2 Small booklets, 45+ cards (5 Objective, 25 Time, 15 clue) Should only be like 10 - 15 bucks, in my opinion

On the line of Story Packs. I would love to see Campaign Story Packs such as Shadows over Innsmouth. A series of interlinked stories which can also be run independently.

Cyclopean city from the Mountains of Madness!

Crucifix: Useful against Zombies and Vampires.
Vampires?
Hmmm... I think I can guess what kind of monsters COULD show up in the future.

I sure hope there'll be some small & slim Story Packs to buy "on the fly". Not that I don't like to pay for big packs, but I'd like to be able to just spend some bucks on a story for the next 2 weekends instead of getting another 70+€ pack for half a year. Much more flexible, imho. (And I guess I'd still spend the same amount of money in the end...)

Oh! I LIKE that idea! It would sort of follow the model that the Call of Cthulhu LCG follows. If it kept expansions coming at a steady rate, FFG could have my money without question.
