Default Challenge Ratings in the FAQ - Confusing!!

By GrimGuvna, in WFRP Rules Questions

The description of the default challenge ratings seem to contradict itself with regard to spells and melee/ranged attack actions after reading the example.

Now it states that Melee and Ranged attack have a default easy (1d) difficulty and spells and other actions are a simple (0d) diff. All well and fine until you come to the example.

The example is a spell and consists of 2 challenge die (1 from action diff and 1 from an assumed standard 1 die diff) and 1 misfortune dice from tgt def.

Now i beleive that because casting a spell is a simple (0d) diff then should the check only be 1 chall die and 1 misfortune die. It would be 2 chall die if the caster wanted to quick cast of course and therefore added another challenge dice to the pool.

Is there any advance on this?

This is preety poor fantasy flight,, FAQs should not raise more confusion based an an already confusing subject leading to potentially FAQs an a FAQ.

The FAQ states that any action that is a Vs target defence action has a default difficulty of 1 challenge.

Therefore that spells default difficulty is 1d rather than 0d.

The FAQ and example is correct

Hope this helps

Thanks,

Ddoes that mean any spell not cast against a Tgt def is a simple(0d) diff? So say if the spell targetted somethings willpower than the check would be solely cast as an opposed check? or if not contested by anything then as a simple standard check?

Correct.

Any spell that says "vs Defense" has a default 1d difficulty base

Any spell that does not say "vs" anything has a 0d difficulty base

Any spell that says "vs" (other than vs Defense) is an opposed check and has a difficulty based on the rules for Opposed checks.
