finding a game in Chicago

By jayhad, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hey all, is there a separate forum for finding players of games? I am in Chicago and would like to find a WFRP 3E or even a board game group (War of the Ring, Small World, whatever). Reply or send me a note if there is any open activity in the city. Thanks, jay

I'm looking for a Chicago WFRP game as well. You can't walk down the street without bumping into a D&D group, but devotees of the Old World are hard to find.

Sadly, such seems to be the case in most places. Even in the relatively gaming-dense Dallas area, it can be tough to find people interested in joining a non-D&D RPG.

I wish I knew what the D&D fascination is. It's *ok*, but certainly no better than that, and definitely not the best game I've ever played...

Anyone wanna fill me in? Is it a first to the party thing?

Don't mean to thread-jack but D&D does owe a lot to the fact that it was "the first" but it has also been the most heavily and consistently supported as well as having unequalled market exposure (wanted or not...there's some truth to the saying: "No press is bad press"). It's also partly a product of the "famous because it's famous" perpetual cycle, meaning that people hear about D&D because of its popularity and in turn make it more popular by supporting it.

I think part of the appeal as well is its simplicity. Individual editions of the rules aside, D&D is a very simple (read: easily accessible) game at heart. It's about larger-than-life heroes seeking grand adventure, slaying monsters, gathering fantastical treasure and having your journeys recorded in myths and legends. It's basically the Greek/Arthurian Legends in game form.

There's something admirable about that as a concept but it is often a shame that it steals so much of the limelight as a result.

We now return to our regularly-scheduled thread...happy.gif

Did you ever find players in Chicago? I don't live in the city, but way up near Gurnee, and I'm trying to find players to get a group started. Does anyone know of players or groups in the Chicago area? Or any resources for finding other players?

I lives near Schaumburg. How about we just start a list by this thread, List a name + area we are nearby.

I've been in touch with Jayhad, and am looking to get involved in a local Chicago -area group.

Perhaps also say if you are looking for a group, or you already play and are looking for extra players.

I'm looking for a group, or to get one started. I live near Gurnee. I'm 31 years old. Been plaing Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40K for a long time, and played 2nd edition Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, but haven't played 3rd edition yet.

I will list myself as a "future prospect GM/Player" for Warhammer, as currently I am going through a lot real life issue which take higher priority than gaming.

Have any one check out Games Plus at Mount Prospect? http://www.games-plus.com It's a pretty well stocked game store with a lot space for gaming.

I will suggest to take a look at the store to find a group.

Take care,
