Does Key of Tawil At'Umr end your movement?

By player1759402, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Topic. We had this question come up in a game this weekend because a player wanted to know if they could use Key of Tawil At'Umr and then use Find Gate during the same movement. We decided that you couldn't but I want to see what other people's thoughts on this are?

I say "no," but that's simply from a "otherwise it'd be too powerful" perspective. So it's not official, but that's how I perosnally would play it!

This card's effect appears to replace your entire movement. As with similar effects, you shouldn't be able to cast Find Gate. Similarly, you shouldn't be able to use the White Ship to cart to an Other World, and then use the Key to immediately return, as White Ship also provides a "replace movement" effect.

As I see it, there would never be a game mechanic that would give you a free pass for the OW. You should have at least once OW encounter before returning to Arkham.

Of course, someone will now come up with an obscure set of events that will prove me wrong!

Yes, that guy is me. I can think of ONE situation where it would be all right to get zero encounters. And it's actually from the base game.

There's a Mythos card that says that all investigators in other worlds may return to Arkham. If the gate opened by this mythos card happened to draw you in, then you just got a free zero-encounter pass.

Thanks for all the input guys. I thought we played it the right way, but I wanted to be sure.

And Tibs, do you just have every card and all the text memorized or what? LOL

Dammit! I even thought of that specific headline, but did not consider that you may be drawn through into OW by the very same mythos card.

Throw in some expansions and there are other possibilities - gate opens on someone (Mark Harrigan, for instance) who is immune to delayed. They then cast Find Gate in their movement phase.

Wow, I was trying to think of how Harrigan's ability would make this happen and completely forgot about that situation.

Joke's on him though, because Find Gate requires a sanity cost and a spell check. He'd be better off taking the measly one encounter.

Poor-poor Erich Weiss, always overlooked llorando.gif . And with his +2 Spell checks, you might actually cast that Find Gate (unlike Marky-Mark on his own).

Too bad he needs two spells to sacrifice to him (which is possible of course, but unlikely). Or for Mark to think, "Hey, now that Im getting an ally, who should I get?" and draw Eric Weiss instead of someone like The Messenger. Though, he could, of course, draw him from an encounter that gives you a random ally.

I love Mark, because when getting my 5th clue, I get it, and every next clue at high frequency gates. DARING the Mythos to draw him in during the Mythos phase...

I love Mark, because he inevitably dies a horrible death (usually in an insane asylum), but his flamethrower lives on ;') FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!

I haven't forgotten about Houdini. But who ever gets him?

You know who does, Tibs? Abdul Reis el Drogman. That's who!
