was it doing so bad or what?
Doom the Boardgame disappeared from the catalog and forum ...
I don't know about "doing bad" but it's been out of print for several years now. Better part of a decade maybe? FFG hasn't supported it for a long time now, this is just the last loose end to tie off.
I gather the forum is still there if you can link to it directly, it's just been removed from the list of board game forums here.
Doom The Boardgame disappeared since Descent came out...
FFG no longer have the DOOM License, hence it is no surprise they are no longer printing the game or supporting it in any way.

Doom disappeared before Descent came out. Descent was created primarily BECAUSE Doom was forced to go out of print.

Not really. Descent was created because Chris asked Kevin to create it, not because they thought they'd do better with original IP or that they might not renew the Doom license.
As for Doom itself, the Forum still exists, they moved it General -> Forum Archive -> Doom here: www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_temas.asp
Also, you can still download the PDFs they had on the site (even though that too was removed, the Doom "page") at the FFG Product Archive here: www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_nrep.asp
It is a shame that it's been shuffled in the back corner like this. But I guess that's why we have BGG, for all our favorite out of print/non-supported games (BGG's Doom entry is found here: www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/10640/doom-the-boardgame )
