Early expansion

By lovfinion, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Greetings everyone,

My 4 friends(from the UK) and I have been board game players for years but only recently came across Arkham Horror - Now we have played it dozens of times and now want to purchase some expansion and in chronological order. Now this is proving very frustrating as it seems the first two expansion "Curse of the Dark Pharaoh & Dunwich Horror seem to be out of print and when I do come across someone selling either game its for a rediculously inflated price (some folks should be ashamed of themselves)

So for now we remain with the base game, will this be remedied anytime soon, I am may well pick up those expansion in print, but for me I love doing things in order..

Welcome to the madhouse. I can understand wanting to buy the expansions in order but its not nessary. Try looking at local game shops or Barns&Noble for those expansion. Dunwich does add a lot of great elements to the game. I personally like the theme of The King in Yellow over Curse but they are both fun. I suggest you download Strange Eons if you get board with the base game. Its a software package that lets you make custom stuff for the game. I hope for you and everyone who doesn't have Dunwich that FFG rereleases it soon.

I just got Innsmouth, and it brings a ton of content to the table. Personal stories, 16 investigators, and 8 new ancient ones(plus 2 heralds) integrate very well with the base game. You also get the Innsmouth board and some new ways to play. :) Kingsport is also another big box expansion you should look at. The Arkham Horror wiki will show you all the content that's found in each of them. I'm using it to grab expansions based on what I want for content. Here's the wiki link- http://www.arkhamhorrorwiki.com/Main_Page I know Dunwich is in reprint, and Dark Pharoah is hard to find ( I just happened across mine at a local store) but there is a host of new and exciting material out there.

Strange Eons is one of the best things you can find for this game, not only do you get to churn out new material, it will provide you with hours of entertaining joke content.lol

I devised a bunch of base game only variants that drastically boost the game difficulty (that could tide you over until you get expansions). Check the Ancient Ones thread in the Fan Creation section. I did it within the last year. Sometime during or shortly after the Fall I think.

After doing a goolge search on the 7th page (after checking loads of sites) I found a company with 1 copy of CotDP and i snapped it up, it arrived today and i am altogether excited about trying it out tonight :)

When you say Dunwich is in reprint do you mean its on the verge of being on general sale again, as i truly want a copy and cannot find any?

It was anounced that was in reprint last month , but no new details have been released about it. Congrats on finding DH! I know Dunwich is the first big-box that you should get, and I've been waiting anxiously for it to come back out.

Quick thing, Mad, Curse of the Dark Pharaoh can be shorthed to CotDP or DP or Dark Pharaoh or some other variation you want. But referring to it as DH (I thought you did it once or twice by accident) is very confusing, since Dunwich Horror is often shortened to that. Just so there's no confusion if you have a question or comment later on ^_^

Whoops, didn't even know I was doing it.>< I'm dysgraphic so sometimes I get my abbreviations mixed up. Sorry about any confusion that caused.
