So I couldn't resist the reduced price of the iPad after the new version was revealed yesterday and ordered one for 330€. I want to use the WFRP books on the iPad. But since these big pdfs are rather slow, even on the computer, can someone recommend a pdf reader that handles them well and fast?
Which iPad pdf reader for WFRP Rulebooks?
I've personally had no issues with using Goodreader for WFRP v2 pdfs, and dont imagine it would be any different for V3.
Just like with any layered PDF, the best option is to go to your Mac, or find a friend with a Mac, have them open the PDF and then Print it, and Save to PDF. That will compress all the layers together and make it much more iPad-friendly.
The problem with "printing" the rulebooks to a file is, that Preview on the Mac won't render the rulebooks correctly. So the saved file will also have the incorrect rendering.
EDIT: I'm not sure if all WFRP3 files had this problems, but some definitely have.
I've been using Goodreader and it's fantastic. However there are still some pages that don't get rendered correctly for the WFRP 3 rules and they are still piled so thick in layers that flipping through them is slow, but in saying that they do render a little faster then on my ipad then on my computer. I've tried a couple other of the free pdf readers on iPad and none of them have even been able to open the WFRP 3 pdf's. There is another paid pdf viewer that rates well but I haven't tried it and it's also more expensive then Goodreader. In general though Goodreader rocks for anything else I've thrown at it.
I bought Goodreader and I'm very pleased with it. In fact it renders the pdfs faster and better than Preview or the Adobe reader on my Mac, even the "strange" ones. Thanks for the advice.
Guess I posted to soon, the pdfs of the corebox still suck and do render strangely.
