First Lurker expansion game

By satanito, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hello again. As usual i need help.

I two questions:

1) The lurker herald says : Each time a Gate opens, draw and resolve a Reckoning card.

My question is: During a mythos phase when a gate opens wich resolves first? the effect of the mythos card or do you stop at that point and resolve the reckoning card first?

2) If i have a ally bound and i discard the ally later, do i still keep the ally bound? or does it refreshes and i can take another ally?

THANKS!!!!

1. Not so sure about this, but I usually place the gate and spawn the monsters, then draw and resolve the Reckoning, and then I complete resolving the Mythos card.

2. Even if you discard the ally, you may not get rid of the Bound Ally pact

1. My group agreed to resolve the Mythos Card completely, then draw and resolve a reckoning card.

2. Like Julia said, once you have a pact card, you keep the pact card.

Hmm interresting question.

I just bought the Lurker at the Threshold expansion and have played it once so far.
We resolved the reckoning card immediately after opening the gate.

This was imho the best approach.

Maybe something for the FAQ?

Yes, I definitely agree that the Bound Ally sticks around with you.... FOREVER O_O.

In response to your first question, methinks that the Reckoning card is resolved after the gate opens. Can't be too sure though.

As I understand it, you can never get rid of a dark pact. That's their whole point - make a pact with the most powerful being in the universe and make due with the consequences. ^^

To your main question, it's really a matter of convenience versus following the directions literally. It says each time a gate open, you're to draw and resolve a Reckoning card. If you follow it exactly as written, you would draw the Mythos card, place the opened gate, then draw and resolve the Reckoning card and then finish the Mythos card. However, if you want to be a little more loose with the terms for the sake of convenience, you can handle each card separately too.

In the end, it doesn't matter too much. There are a few Mythos cards that directly affect the investigators or allow them to make a decision that might impact differently after a Reckoning card is resolved. An example being drawing the Free Clinic! Mythos card and the Power Decays Reckoning card. Depending on the order you resolve the cards, it could play out quite differently. But, as I said before, a situation like that is relatively rare, so the order in which you resolve the cards shouldn't impact the game very much.

So when it comes down to it, you should probably do what others on this forum have done: Come to a consensus with your players.
