Dark Magic?

By TheSon, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

In the Player's guide at the end there is a section of spell action called Dark Magic, but who has access to it since wizards character can only cast spell from their order and basic spell?

Hi,

In Winds of Magic supplement there is a Dark Magic talent card, which allows access to dark magic cards. This could happily be employed as a plot tool to tempt an honest college wizard PC onto a dark path by a mysterious mentor...

Hope that helps

Thank you for your answer!

You might also share them with you cultist or hedge wizards npcs. It's less marked than tzeentsch or nurgle spells.

Any magic career has access to Dark Magic. The Dark Magic order card goes in the Magic Order slot. You keep the stance shown on your Magical Order talent card, and you can still cast spells from that order, but the written test on that talent card is no longer in effect.

By GM's permission, even non-magic careers can have dark magic. In this case, the Dark Magic order talent card would replace one of that career's Focus/Reputation/Tactic talent slots.

It's not recommended to allow players to purchase the Dark Magic talent card, and Dark Magic spells at character creation - the player should ideally slowly learn Dark Magic through discovering forbidden tomes, finding mad dark magic users who can tutor them, and so on.

There also seems to be no penalty for using Dark Magic, when already using magic from another Order - in relation to the optional rule to allow wizards to use magics from other orders but at greater risk. Of course, the potentially negative side effects that come out of using Dark Magic may be penalty enough.

Technically, the Dark Magic talent slot could also allow a player to learn Necromancy and Chaos magic, since those also fall under the wind of Dhar, as I understand it. Conversely, for the same reason, you could give the Dark Magic order talent to NPCs who use Necromancy and Chaos spells.
